A Few Tips for Easier After School Snacks

Prep a couple of things on Sunday. You don’t need a whole meal prep session. A batch of muffins and a tray of yogurt bark takes about 30 minutes total, and you’re set for the week.

Use the freezer more than you think you should. Muffins, energy bites, and yogurt bark all freeze well. Muffins thaw on the counter in about an hour, or 20 seconds in the microwave if nobody can wait that long.

Pair a carb with a protein or fat. Something like crackers without any kind of protein or fiber can set your kiddo up for a crash later. Crackers plus hummus, apple slices plus fruit dip, or a muffin plus a cheese stick will actually hold them until dinner.

Let your kids pick from a short list. Two or three options are plenty. They feel like they got to choose, but you don’t have to prep more than a few options for the week.

Keep the snacks where they can see them. If kids have easy access to cut fruits and vegetables in the fridge or muffins on the counter, they’re more likely to get eaten.
