Super Creamy Hummus Recipe!

Happy Friday friends! I’m in a super good mood because not only is my cold finally going away (I think) but my best friends are coming to VA to visit me today!

But lets back up. Earlier this week I ate my weight in tortilla chips and guacamole during the Super Bowl (oops), but I also filled up on some veggies & homemade hummus! This hummus was so thick and creamy, I had to share the recipe! (I literally was just throwing ingredients into the Vita, but it turned out awesome!)

Super Creamy Hummus (makes about 2 cups of hummus)

  • 1 can of chickpeas
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup sesame tahini
  • Juice from 1 small lemon
  • 2 tbsp of water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Red pepper, for garnish

I threw all this (except for the red pepper)  in the Vitamix and blended for about 30 seconds. You might need to add some more water to thin it out. I left my super thick. (Ok maybe it was a little TOO thick, because sometimes my sliced bell peppers cracked under the weight of this hummus. hehe.)

I paired this bad boy with some veggies, and those chips that pretend to be healthy but really aren’t. (You know who you are, Terra Chips. But I forgive you, because you’re delicious.) I served it in my adorable music dishes! (Thank you, Christine!!)

How do you like your hummus? Super thick? Spicy? Creamy? I like to thin this out with some water and use it as dressing. However, I might start mixing with some mustard, a la HEAB’s Hummy Mustard dressing!

Do you have any fun plans for the weekend? I’m so excited to see my friends, I’ll definitely post some pictures of our adventures ;)

P.S. I updated the Recipes tab so check it out!

  1. First, love that plate! Where did you get it? Also, hummy mustard- what a cute name :) My plans for this weekend are to get caught up with some cleaning/organizing, and post a few blog entries that I’ve been meaning to do but have been so busy!

  2. Hi, thank you for stopping by the blog! And that soup really is THAT good! Ha. Your hummus lookes lovely! I am always teased becasue when I make hummus, I leave out tahini and olive oil. They always say that it isn’t really hummus with out those things. Oh well. To each his own, right?

Hope you have a lvoely weekend!

  3. Don’t you love it when you just start tossing in ingredients, and the recipe turns out great? Your hummus sounds delicious, and I think it would make a great salad dressing, especially with the addition of a little mustard. :)

Lately, I’ve been loving my hummus with chocolate chips. ;)

  4. Mine always turns out super thick when I make it at home although I think I sort of prefer it thinner. I always assumed I would have to add more oil to make it creamier but maybe just good ol water would do the trick. :)

  5. I mix hummus + mustard for dressing all the time! So good!

I am a spicy hummus girl all the way! Creamy and spicy, yes please! ;) Although to be honest, I think I’d like pretty much any hummus you put in front of me. It’s that good!

  6. I stumbled onto your blog and had to comment on the beautiful hummus picture! I highly recommend roasting garlic in the oven (or microwave) until it gets sweet and soft, and then adding it to the hummus! IT IS HEAVEN!!!!

  7. haha love your comment on the Terra Chips :D Isn’t it true of all “veggie” chips nowadays? I prefer eating carrots, thankyou. LOOOVE the looks of your hummus! I never seem to be able to make my hummy nice n’ creamy, it always seems to be slightly more chunky than anything (but still mad tasty, of course). My fav recipe is: almond butter, red wine vinegar, rice vinegar, water, red pepper flakes + olive oil. Spicy, creamy, wonderful.

    happy weekend!

  8. Oh aaaand: the only reason we drink rice milk is ’cause it’s the only non-dairy milk (besides soy, I eat enough tofu + edamame to feed 4 counties) they sell at Costco! haha, it doesn’t compare to soy/almond/coconut milk, though. The texture is thinner (more like h2o or nonfat cow milk) and we get the unsweetened kind so the taste is also pretty light. It’s still fantastic though!

  9. Yummmm! I love veggies with hummus! Your recipe sounds really good, I’ll have to make this soon! Tera Chips are such a great splurge too!!

    Love your blog!!

  10. I like my hummus creamy with lots of garlic. I also like it to be lemony…I like a bit of a tangy aftertaste. Ah, hummus. Off to add chickpeas to my shopping list right now.
