Everything Bagel Hummus
This easy hummus tastes just like your favorite everything bagel! You can quickly turn a can of chickpeas into a creamy dip with tons of savory flavor.
I love everything bagels. We can all agree they’re the best bagel, right? When Trader Joe’s came out with their “Everything But the Bagel” seasoning, the world rejoiced. And now, it’s easy to find this seasoning blend on grocery store shelves everywhere!
What is Everything Bagel Seasoning?
Everything bagels are usually seasoned with a mix of poppy seeds, sesame seeds, garlic, onion, and sea salt flakes. This classic blend isn’t just great on bagels. It’s delicious as a seasoning for hummus!
How to Make Everything Bagel Seasoning
If you have a well-stocked spice cabinet, you can make your own Everything Bagel Seasoning at home. To ensure you’re getting the authentic textures and flavors, be sure to use flaky sea salt and minced garlic and onion. They have a different texture than garlic powder, onion powder, and table salt.
Here’s a basic everything bagel seasoning recipe, which you can easily adjust to your preferences:
- 2 teaspoons white sesame seeds
- 2 teaspoons black sesame seeds
- 1 1/2 teaspoons dried minced garlic
- 1 1/2 teaspoons dried minced onion
- 1/2 teaspoon poppy seeds
- 1 teaspoon sea salt flakes
Where to Buy Everything Bagel Seasoning
If you have a Trader Joe’s nearby, you can buy their classic Everything But the Bagel seasoning blend. But if you don’t have one near you, don’t worry! More grocery stores are beginning to sell their own blend. I like this blend from Castle Foods which you can order on Amazon.
How to Make Super Smooth Hummus
Chickpeas are easier to blend when they’re warm, so heating the chickpeas before blending will help you create a velvety and creamy hummus. For an even smoother texture, cook the chickpeas on the stove until they’re very soft.
To get super creamy hummus, rinse and drain the chickpeas, transfer them to a pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil then simmer for 15-20 minutes. This will give you the creamiest texture. If you’re short on time, you can microwave for 2-3 minutes. They won’t be as creamy as simmering, but it’ll be creamier than straight from a can.
How to Store Leftover Hummus
If you have leftover hummus, store it in the fridge. If the hummus thickens, simply add a little bit of water and stir. You can also microwave it on low for 15-20 seconds to bring it to room temperature.
What to Serve with Everything Bagel Hummus
- This hummus is delicious with sliced veggies. I love cucumbers, bell peppers, and carrot sticks!
- You can also toast pieces of naan or pita and cut them into triangles for dipping.
- This flavorful hummus makes a great sandwich spread! You could even smear it on a bagel for a tasty topping with double the bagel flavor!

Thanks for this great recipe. My family loved it! Am already planning to divide the recipe before the seasoning into three. Making a third the everything bagel, one with garlic and roasted pepper, and the last with kalamata olives for my next dish to take to a get together. I had heard hummus was pretty easy to make. Now that I’ve made it – no more pricey store bought hummus for us!
I have tried many homemade versions of hummus and they never come out! Â This one is FANTASTIC! Â I believe the game changer was boiling the chickpeas. Â The consistency was perfect! Â This will be my base recipe for all future hummus!!
