My mother-in-law shared this recipe with me when they came to visit Richmond and I love it. I had actually never tried adding grapes to a smoothie but the green grapes give this recipe just the right amount of sweetness!

How to Make a Creamy Green Smoothie

The first step is to blend the almond milk, protein powder, and spinach until completely smooth. This is the best way to ensure that your smoothie is super creamy and not gritty or grainy.

Once the spinach and protein powder is completely blended, add the avocado, grapes, yogurt, and ice. Blend until smooth.

If you want to make the texture of the smoothie thicker, freeze the grapes overnight and use just a small amount of almond milk. For more ways to create a spoonable smoothie, follow my tips for super thick smoothies!

Creamy Green Smoothie Ingredients

  • Almond milk- You can use any kind of milk, if you don’t have almond milk.
  • Spinach- Spinach is an easy green to hide in a smoothie.
  • Vanilla protein powder- I like using plant-based protein powders. I recommend Vega sport vanilla protein powder.
  • Green grapes- These add sweetness to the smoothie.
  • Vanilla Greek yogurt- I like vanilla yogurt for more sweetness but you can use plain Greek yogurt, if needed. If you’re looking for a vegan option, try using silken tofu! It works great in my tofu smoothie and it would be delicious here, too!
  • Avocado- This makes the smoothie super creamy and adds healthy fat to help keep you full.
  • Ice- This helps make the smoothie thicker.

How Do You Make a Smoothie Creamy?

In this recipe, the avocado and the yogurt help create a creamy texture. If you wanted to make this recipe vegan, use a non-dairy yogurt. If you wanted to make it lower in fat, you can skip the avocado and use a little extra yogurt. Other ingredients that can make a smoothie creamy are frozen bananas or nut butters like peanut butter or almond butter.

Is It OK to Drink a Smoothie Every Day?

Smoothies are a great, healthy meal to add to your diet! I would recommend switching up your smoothies so you can get a range of nutrients in your diet, but smoothies are definitely a great every day meal! Are Smoothies Bad for You?

Maybe you’ve seen the pictures on Instagram of a smoothie from a popular smoothie shop that has nearly 100g of sugar. Or maybe you’re just skeptical that something so tasty could be healthy for you! It is important to consider what’s in a smoothie. Just because it’s a smoothie doesn’t mean it’s healthy and a lot of the popular smoothie chains use fruit juices to make the smoothies sweet, which also makes them loaded with sugar. This creamy green smoothie has just 10g of sugar and over 21g of protein.

Substitution Ideas

  • You can use any milk you like. I generally use almond milk, but this recipe is also delicious with oat milk or dairy milk.
  • Vanilla Greek yogurt will make this recipe sweeter, but you can use plain Greek yogurt for a lower sugar option.
  • The protein powder is optional so feel free to leave it out if you prefer!

The Best Protein Powder for Smoothies

I’ve tried a lot of different protein powders and it’s hard to pick a favorite! I think whey protein has the best creamy texture, but whey doesn’t always make my stomach feel great. I try to stick to plant-based protein when possible and I love the Tone It Up protein from Target! You can use any protein powder you like, but I recommend sticking to a vanilla flavor!

The Best Greens for a Green Smoothie

Spinach is the easiest leafy green to blend into a smoothie and you won’t notice the taste. If you want to use kale, be sure to remove the stems first, as they’re too tough and bitter to add to a smoothie. The green grapes and avocado help make this smoothie extra green! For a different greens-packed smoothie, try this spinach berry smoothie.

Can You Freeze Avocado?

Yes! If you have extra avocadoes that are on the verge of spoiling, slice in half and remove the pit. Use a large spoon to scoop out the flesh of the avocado. Freeze the halves in an airtight freezer bag. This is a great way to avoid wasting any avocado!
