Treadmill Workouts (No Running Required)
If you’re looking for a great cardio workout, these treadmill workouts will help you get your heart pumping — no running required!
We bought a treadmill a few years ago and I love using it as a treadmill desk, but I rarely use it for running. I’ve learned that running doesn’t feel great on my joints and it’s hard to get myself motivated to log miles indoors. Luckily, I’ve found that I can work up a sweat without actually running!
As a NASM certified personal trainer, I know how important it is to stay consistent with exercise. But you have to find workouts you really enjoy, otherwise, it’s hard to stick with a routine! These walking treadmill workouts are a great low-impact way to get your heart rate up!
So if you’re looking for a great treadmill workout without running, these workouts can get you started!
If you also want to tone a bit of your upper body, grab a pair of light weights and get in a few reps (ok, a lot of reps) while you’re on the treadmill.

Do you enjoy running on the treadmill?
I LOVE walking workouts! They’re easier for me to stick with because I don’t dread it like I do running. Thanks for giving me a new idea to add to the roster! 🙂
This workout is awesome. I do tend to do indoor workouts during these warmer months, but try to walk a lot since I work downtown!
I hate running so this is RIGHT up my alley!!! Walking ALL THE WAY! 😉
Ughh, I hate running on the treadmill too! I actually ran two miles today (just two quick ones) and still felt like I was on it forever! I absolutely love walking on the treadmill though. I’ve done different interval/incline workouts but love your idea about adding in some toning exercises. Will definitely be trying this!
Years ago when I was unemployed for 13 months I used our treadmill at home. I would walk for 2 1-hour sessions each day, and over time increased both pace and incline. I lost a ton of weight and busted a lot of stress.
These were in my pre-running days when I never would have been caught dead running on the side of the street!
I actually really like the treadmill. It’s so convenient to have a place for my water and not have to worry about getting run over haha. It’s also handy to have the bathroom near by, as I always end up 2 miles from home needing to go.
Hahaha that is so true!! And it’s obviously much better in terms of weather! Did it take you awhile to get used to the treadmill or have you always liked it?
Thank you for sharing this! I am not able to run because of knee issues, so it is nice to see a treadmill workout that does not involve running.
first of all, love that you played Euchre with the family. second — what a big gorgeous family – y’all look so happy! and, lastly, a confession: i will only run on treadmills 🙂
Haha Euchre is such a midwestern game!
I love doing incline walking workouts on treadmills. I really build up a sweat.
So wait, do you get OFF and perform the lunges and squats? God I sure hope so otherwise, injuries could ensue 😛 I love the elliptical but I do interval training on it as well- I’m just starting to get fancy with the treadmill so will keep this in mind. 🙂 Thanks for the heads up Liz and have a great one -Iva
hahaha yes, you get off the treadmill during those 😉 I had that in the text but I added it into the image because I realized that someone pinning it might think the same thing!
