Treadmill Workouts (No Running Required)
If you’re looking for a great cardio workout, these treadmill workouts will help you get your heart pumping — no running required!
We bought a treadmill a few years ago and I love using it as a treadmill desk, but I rarely use it for running. I’ve learned that running doesn’t feel great on my joints and it’s hard to get myself motivated to log miles indoors. Luckily, I’ve found that I can work up a sweat without actually running!
As a NASM certified personal trainer, I know how important it is to stay consistent with exercise. But you have to find workouts you really enjoy, otherwise, it’s hard to stick with a routine! These walking treadmill workouts are a great low-impact way to get your heart rate up!
So if you’re looking for a great treadmill workout without running, these workouts can get you started!
If you also want to tone a bit of your upper body, grab a pair of light weights and get in a few reps (ok, a lot of reps) while you’re on the treadmill.

Do you enjoy running on the treadmill?
Running on the treadmill is not my absolute favorite thing to do but sometimes it’s needed due to weather. This looks like an interesting and fun workout. Thanks for sharing!
I’ve totally seen someone trying to do lunges on the treadmill while it was moving. So funny! I love switching up my treadmill workouts and including alternate moves.
Hahaha I guess if it was set realllllly slow then maybe that could work!
LOVE these. Im not a runner, so any workout that doesn’t involve running is right up my alley 😉 When I do use my treadmill though, I like to do it like you have. Although mine usually involve short bursts of speed, so like a set of weights [diff mismatched moves] then 2 minutes of running. I do that for like 5 sets or so, and am typically drenched in sweat and exhausted after!
My gut response is to say that I hate running on the treadmill but the truth is, I learned to like it over the winter. I need to remember that for rainy days and when the cold weather returns! I find it easier for me to run a bit slower than walk super fast. I don’t know, I am just not a fan of walking but ask me to run, no problem lol.
I am surprisingly TERRIBLE at running on the treadmill. I can’t run a mile on one. It’s so weird. When I was training for the half marathon I had to run outside or on the gym track. I wish I were better at running on the treadmill 🙁
Sometimes I run, but sometimes I walk. I really enjoy good walking interval workouts – ones that play with speed and incline. Thanks for the workout!
I hate running on a treadmill too! Walking I don’t mind as much. Probably because I can better focus on whatever tv show is on : )
I actually really like treadmills! And by really like, I mean tolerate, because I hate running. If the ground below me isn’t moving, neither am I, so a treadmill is perfect for me with some trashy TV on.
My booty is hurting from just looking at the workouts 🙂 haha! I actually love running on treadmills. I even trained for my first half soley on one of those bad boys… with a good show or magazine to read/watch each time.
You’re amazing! I can’t run on a treadmill for more than a few minutes without counting every second until I get off. I think watching something on Netflix would certainly help. (I wish we had wifi at the gym!)
I had to giggle a bit when you said lunges, burpees, etc should be done off the treadmill. I suppose if you didn’t specify, maybe someone would try that 😉
I don’t like running. On or off the treadmill. I do do it every now and again when my toddler decides to sleep/someone else is around to watch him. Given that the weather here in the Netherlands for the past few weeks has either been unbearably hot or there have been thunderstorms, a non-running treadmill workout does seem like a great option!
