Easy Guacamole Seasoning
I love making guacamole and this seasoning blend is the perfect thing to add to your fresh avocados to create a dip that will have you coming back for seconds!
I love making guacamole and most of the time, I make this easy 4 ingredient guacamole. But sometimes I find myself with ripe avocados, without any of the other ingredients I’d typically add to guacamole like fresh cilantro, red onion, lime juice, or jalapeños. So how do I create delicious guacamole with just a few pantry staples? By using this seasoning blend!
You may have seen the guacamole seasoning packets at the store but if you have a stocked spice cabinet at home, you definitely don’t need to buy the packaged version. It’s easy to make at home and you can customize it based on how spicy you like to make your dip.
Guacamole Seasoning Ingredients
- Cayenne pepper– If you like a little heat, you can dial up the cayenne pepper, or leave it out for a more mild flavor.
- Garlic powder– This is a great way to add garlicky flavor without using raw garlic, which can have a sharp taste when eaten raw.
- Onion powder– When I don’t have red onions, onion powder can replace some of that flavor.
- Cumin– I love the warm earthy flavor this can add to fresh guacamole. It’s not particularly spicy but it has a slightly citrusy flavor.
- Salt– Obviously salt enhances all the other flavors. I like using coarse kosher salt but you can use table salt if that’s what you have. Just adjust the amount to account for the smaller granules.
How to Make Guacamole Seasoning
Combine all the spices and salt in a small jar and mix until combined. This can be stored in the pantry for up to 3 months. This seasoning is also delicious on black beans!
How to Get Perfectly Ripe Avocados
- I like to pick out avocados before they’re close to being ripe. Most of the time, if they’re already ripe in the store, they’ll likely be bruised.
- To ripen avocados faster, keep them in a bowl or paper bag with bananas. The ethylene gas released from the bananas will help soften the avocados quickly.
- Once the avocados are soft, put them in the fridge. This will keep them at their peak of ripeness for much longer.
Tips for Storing Guacamole
If you’re making guacamole in advance, the best way to keep it from browning is to transfer it to a small container and cover the top with plastic wrap. You want to press the plastic wrap down onto the top of the guacamole so that it’s flat, with the surface of the guacamole completely pressed against the plastic. This helps prevent air from reaching the guacamole so that the guacamole won’t turn brown. Keep it in the fridge until you’re ready to enjoy it.

- 3/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 3/4 teaspoon cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or less for a more mild flavor)
Instructions

Notes
Add 1 teaspoon of seasoning for each avocado.
Waaaayyy too salty! I was disappointed.
Good combination of spices but it’s way to salty! 1 TBSP is plenty of Kosher salt. I had to go back and double the rest of the spices to make up for the over salting.
I had 2 avocados that needed using up but very few other ingredients for guacamole. So, I tried this seasoning and it was so good. I actually ate it on wholewheat bread with smoked salmon! Delish! Love your tip about leaving avocados to ripen faster with bananas. Definitely want to try that!
Thank you for this easy recipe…I love to make my own seasoning blends and I love how diverse this is…..I can use it on so much more than just guac.
I love to make my own spice blends, and this one is a winner for me. I love that it contains cumin – an essential seasoning for my guacamole.
What a great find for me I love this idea of having the seasoning all ready made and its so easy!
Loved this combo of seasonings! Every time I make guacamole I find myself wishing I had a spice blend instead of just randomly throwing in spices and making my best guess! I decided I wanted to find one, and this one was it and it was awesome. Will make a bigger batch today to use all summer.
