Why I Love This Recipe

Do you ever find yourself torn between wanting to eat some healthy vegetables and craving a melty, cheesy pizza? Well, I have good news: you can have both!

Broccoli pizza is one of my favorite ways to incorporate nutritious veggies into my beloved pizza night. It’s so easy to make, and I love how the broccoli gets nice and crispy. Especially if you throw the oven on broil for the last few minutes!

Meanwhile, the combination of ricotta, Pecorino Romano, and mozzarella with a little garlic powder and Italian seasoning is simply delightful! Seriously, I never get tired of these flavors together.

This white pizza is perfect when you’re looking for an easy weeknight recipe. Just spread the cheese and seasoning over the crust, top with broccoli, and toss it all in the oven. In less than half an hour, you’ll have a deliciously cheesy meal ready to enjoy! Trust me, this is a recipe you’re going to want to make again and again.

Best Pizza Crust for Broccoli Pizza

You may be wondering what kind of crust you should use for this recipe. Personally, I love making my easy homemade pizza dough! This super simple recipe is one of the best ways to make your crust from scratch. Best of all, you only need four ingredients

Homemade pizza dough is very easy to make, but it does need two hours to rise. If you’re in a hurry, then I recommend my two-ingredient pizza crust instead! It’s ready in minutes and there’s no need to wait for the dough to rise.

Once you try a crispy, chewy, fresh-baked homemade crust, you’ll never want to eat pizza any other way again. And when they’re this easy to make, there’s no reason not to!

Fresh vs. Frozen Broccoli

It’s entirely up to you whether you use fresh or frozen broccoli. I’ve tried this recipe with both options and had the pizza turn out great either way!

For the best results, I do prefer to use fresh broccoli whenever possible because it will get a crispier texture as it bakes in the oven. But if you only have frozen on hand, there’s no need to make a trip to the store. Throw the frozen florets on top and you’re good to go!

Whether you decide to use fresh or frozen broccoli, you do not need to pre-cook it. The broccoli will cook through as you’re baking the pizza.

Tips for Perfect Pizza

  • Make sure the oven is fully preheated before you start baking the pizza. This will give you the crispiest crust and broccoli along with the perfect melty cheese blend.
  • No matter what recipe you’re making, the final result will only ever be as good as the ingredients used. That’s why I always recommend opting for high quality dough, cheese, and toppings. If you’re going to treat yourself to pizza, why not make it the best it can possibly be?
  • Be sure to use freshly grated Pecorino Romano or Parmesan. Packaged cheese includes anti-caking agents to prevent the cheese from clumping that can alter the taste and texture. Grating yourself is only an extra minute or two of work and the result is so much better than pre-grated!
  • For the best results, try to cut the broccoli florets the same size to ensure they cook evenly. You want the florets to get nice and crispy.

Substitution Ideas

  • If you prefer Parmesan or already have some on hand in your kitchen, feel free to use it in place of the Pecorino Romano!
  • Mix up your flavor profile by substituting other seasonings for the Italian seasoning. You can use your own mix of dried oregano, basil, thyme, sage, and rosemary or go ahead and get creative with whatever blend sounds best to you.
  • Don’t want to make a crust yourself? Try using store-bought naan or flatbread instead of dough. Keep in mind that the pizza will cook in about 10 minutes.
  • If you want to add a little heat to this recipe, try adding a drizzle of homemade chili crisp!
