Vacation Sweetness!
Let me just start by saying I’ve been making a lot of progress on my list. I’ve been relaxing. I’ve soaked up some rays. I’ve read Glamour, Marie Clare, and Quirks. And I’ve definitely sipped [more than] my share of drinks…
This has been the landscape
And Eric and I have had some quality time together!
Not bad, right?
What is bad, is the fact that I’ve been eating pretty much nothing but crap for the past three days… chips, pretzels, sandwiches, um… alcohol?
I did manage to scrounge up some lettuce, green peppers, tomatoes, and hummus…
However, this has literally been my only source of vegetables all weekend. I can practically hear my body screaming for some carrots. Or parsnips. Or something.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s vacation, and a few [extra] chocolate chip cookies never killed anyone. But it does make me realize how much I genuinely like eating vegetables. And how much more energy I have when I eat healthy! Which got me thinking about Alex’s Sugar Free Challenge!
Are you taking the challenge? I’m not sure I’ll be able to do it for 10 days (I’m going to Bonnaroo, and I don’t think I’ll be able to pack proper food to continue the challenge…) But I am going to try it for 5 days! Baby steps, right?
So even though I’m already a label checker, I’ve got a new thing to watch out for! No sugar for this girl!
Are you taking the sugar free challenge? Do your habits change when you’re on vacation?

What a great challenge! I was thinking about taking that challenge but I realized that I sort of want to Pledge Vegan for 30 days. I’m still confused at what I should do…
Oh, I would love to do that challenge! I’m going on vacation of my own in a few days–that might be my goal as soon as I get back home (like you, vacay food ends up being less than ideal–although more than delicious 😀 )
Im actually doing a juice challenge this week, but I also want to try to do at least 1 day of sugar free each week in june. I think it will be good for me, and a bit tough as well!! I love my sugar, and it is literally in everything!
Oh that’s a good idea!! Spreading it out over a month could be really cool! I think its definitely going to be eye opening to see how much sugar I consume!
You’re vacation sounds wonderful! And I just did the same, ate absolutely horribly over the week – or nothing at all.. so bad! And now I’m intrigued about the sugarfree challenge… I definitely need a little cleanse after all that alchohol.
But I’m so glad you had a great vacation! Good luck on the challenge!
We just got back from a short Memorial Weekend trip and I feel the same way. Too much snacking & too little fresh fruits and vegetables!
Good luck on the challenge!! I almost always slack off of healthy eating when on vacation too! 🙂
oh good luck on the challenge! I thought about doing that, then totally forgot. Hmmm, maybe I should reconsider? hehe. Enjoy vacation!
I haven’t decided if I was going to take the sugar free challenge. I think it’s great to start off with five days. At least your trying!
When I’m on vacation I feel like it’s a green light to eat anything I want.l
I’m the same way! I always over do it on vacation! So I’m thinking the sugar free challenge might help me get back on track!
How good are holidays? It’s tricky to eat well on holidays (Lauren and I wrote about it on our website last friday actually: http://easythrillsemptypockets.blogspot.com/2011/05/eating-while-travelling-delicious-vs.html ) . That sounds like quite the challenge, especially since there is so much sugar sneakily put into foods under different names and such.
Good luck on the challenge!!
I always feel my best when I am eatings lots of GREEN!!
