Cottage Cheese Alfredo Sauce
This cottage cheese alfredo sauce is rich and creamy but secretly healthy! It’s packed with protein and surprisingly easy to make.

This creamy cottage cheese pasta sauce is a game-changer when youโre craving comfort food, but want something a bit lighter. The combination of cottage cheese, cream cheese, and Parmesan makes it indulgent without being heavy, and the versatility of this recipe means you can customize it to fit your taste. Give it a try and see why this healthy pasta sauce might just become your new favorite!
Benefits of Using Cottage Cheese
Cottage cheese is one of my favorite ingredients, especially when it comes to sauces. Itโs loaded with protein, calcium, and vitamin B12, making it an excellent substitute for heavier ingredients like heavy cream or butter. Plus, using cottage cheese in this pasta sauce makes it super creamy!
Ingredients and Substitutions
- Cottage cheese– I used 4% milkfat cottage cheese to make it extra rich and creamy, but you can use 2% milk fat for a lower calorie option.
- Milk– You can use any kind of milk. I used Fairlife skim milk for extra protein.
- Cream cheese– A touch of cream cheese makes this taste extra rich and creamy.
- Lemon juice: If you donโt have lemon juice, vinegar (such as white wine or apple cider vinegar) makes a good substitute to provide acidity.
- Garlic powder– This adds a savory garlic flavor without the sharpness of raw garlic.
- Italian seasoning– This is typically a blend of basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme, and marjoram. Feel free to use a bit of each spice if you don’t have this seasoning blend in your pantry.
How to Make Cottage Cheese Alfredo Sauce
Tips & Tricks
- Bulk up the protein: Want to boost the protein content even more? Use Fairlife milk and pair this with chickpea pasta.
- Make it spicy: If you like a bit of heat, add a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes!
- Add fresh herbs: Fresh herbs like basil or parsley can be stirred in right before serving for an extra layer of flavor.
What to Serve with Cottage Cheese Alfredo
Consider serving it alongside my warm kale salad or roasted vegetables. If you like to pair it with bread, try a crusty loaf of Wildgrain sourdough bread.
More Ways to Use Cottage Cheese
If you find yourself with leftover cottage cheese after making this recipe, don’t worry! There are plenty of other ways to use it up. Try it in smoothies, a dip, or pancakes. Cottage cheese is incredibly versatile and can sneak its way into both sweet and savory dishes.
