Benefits of Using Cottage Cheese

Cottage cheese is one of my favorite ingredients, especially when it comes to sauces. Itโ€™s loaded with protein, calcium, and vitamin B12, making it an excellent substitute for heavier ingredients like heavy cream or butter. Plus, using cottage cheese in this pasta sauce makes it super creamy!

Ingredients and Substitutions

  • Cottage cheese– I used 4% milkfat cottage cheese to make it extra rich and creamy, but you can use 2% milk fat for a lower calorie option.
  • Milk– You can use any kind of milk. I used Fairlife skim milk for extra protein.
  • Cream cheese– A touch of cream cheese makes this taste extra rich and creamy.
  • Lemon juice: If you donโ€™t have lemon juice, vinegar (such as white wine or apple cider vinegar) makes a good substitute to provide acidity.
  • Garlic powder– This adds a savory garlic flavor without the sharpness of raw garlic.
  • Italian seasoning– This is typically a blend of basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme, and marjoram. Feel free to use a bit of each spice if you don’t have this seasoning blend in your pantry.
