Cake Mix Cobbler
This easy 3 ingredient cake mix cobbler comes together quickly and easily! All you need are frozen berries, cake mix, and butter to make this delicious dessert!
Sometimes, I’m shocked at how simple a recipe can be. When a friend told me about this cake mix trick, I knew I had to try it. I love cobbler but sometimes I don’t want to go through the work of making it from scratch. Luckily, this 3 ingredient cobbler really is as simple as it sounds!
What You Need
- Berries– You can use fresh or frozen berries. I recommend using blueberries.
- Cake mix– I used Betty Crocker Yellow Cake Mix.
- Butter– I recommend using salted butter.
How to Make Cake Mix Cobbler
Spread the blueberries in a 9×9 casserole dish.
Top the blueberries with the cake mix.
Cut the butter into 10-12 pieces and spread evenly on top of the cake mix.
Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Substitution Ideas
You can use fresh or frozen berries. If you use frozen berries, you may need to bake the cobbler a few minutes longer. You could also use mixed berries, frozen peaches, or frozen cherries. If you wanted to make this recipe vegan, check the cake mix box to be sure there is no dairy or eggs (most brands are vegan) and use vegan butter like Earth Balance or Miyokos. To make this recipe gluten-free, use gluten free cake mix.
The Best Cake Mix for Cobbler
I used Betty Crocker’s Yellow Cake Mix. Any brand like Duncan Heins, Pillsbury, or Betty Crocker should work just fine. I don’t recommend using other flavors of cake like chocolate or spice cake.
How to Store Leftovers
While this recipe is best when it’s still warm from the oven, you can store leftovers in the fridge. I like using an oven-safe baking dish that has an airtight lid, so it’s easy to store. But if you don’t have a lid for your baking dish, transfer the cobbler to an airtight container. When serving, reheat in the microwave, if desired.

Wow! That’s my kind of dessert. I’m not big into baking, so the easier the better.
It looks so simple and delish. Anything with less than 5 ingredients is a winner in my book.
nothing beats a 4 ingredient list 😉
cobbler looks great, love blueberry cobbler!
Paula Deen would love the stick of butter! Just kidding…
This gives me an idea to share a super-simple dessert that my mom makes…it’s only 2 ingredients. I’ll share the link for a link-up when I post it! Have a great day.
Next time I have to feed a crowd in a hurry, I’m totally making this. Great idea! If I make cobblers for myself, I usually go all healthy and use an almond flour dough–plus I think the hint of almond complements fruit nicely. But for others? Yeah, cake mix it’s going to be.
I agree, ice cream is never optional… but I bet a swimming pool’s worth of custard would be perfect on this too it looks brilliant! I can see from that picture of the forkful how great it looks 🙂
Ok totally testing this out!! I didn’t know about this little short cut myself, and to think I always make home made cobbler. I think most of those days are over….lol!
What a fab idea definitely one to be logged! Thanks for sharing x x
This looks so good! And such a short ingredients list too!
Aww I love that your dad took you on dates… that is super sweet! 🙂 And this cobbler looks fabulous!
