Cake Mix Cobbler
This easy 3 ingredient cake mix cobbler comes together quickly and easily! All you need are frozen berries, cake mix, and butter to make this delicious dessert!
Sometimes, I’m shocked at how simple a recipe can be. When a friend told me about this cake mix trick, I knew I had to try it. I love cobbler but sometimes I don’t want to go through the work of making it from scratch. Luckily, this 3 ingredient cobbler really is as simple as it sounds!
What You Need
- Berries– You can use fresh or frozen berries. I recommend using blueberries.
- Cake mix– I used Betty Crocker Yellow Cake Mix.
- Butter– I recommend using salted butter.
How to Make Cake Mix Cobbler
Spread the blueberries in a 9×9 casserole dish.
Top the blueberries with the cake mix.
Cut the butter into 10-12 pieces and spread evenly on top of the cake mix.
Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Substitution Ideas
You can use fresh or frozen berries. If you use frozen berries, you may need to bake the cobbler a few minutes longer. You could also use mixed berries, frozen peaches, or frozen cherries. If you wanted to make this recipe vegan, check the cake mix box to be sure there is no dairy or eggs (most brands are vegan) and use vegan butter like Earth Balance or Miyokos. To make this recipe gluten-free, use gluten free cake mix.
The Best Cake Mix for Cobbler
I used Betty Crocker’s Yellow Cake Mix. Any brand like Duncan Heins, Pillsbury, or Betty Crocker should work just fine. I don’t recommend using other flavors of cake like chocolate or spice cake.
How to Store Leftovers
While this recipe is best when it’s still warm from the oven, you can store leftovers in the fridge. I like using an oven-safe baking dish that has an airtight lid, so it’s easy to store. But if you don’t have a lid for your baking dish, transfer the cobbler to an airtight container. When serving, reheat in the microwave, if desired.

That looks delicious – it’ll be perfect to try the GF cake mix I have! Glad you Thai dinner was good!
YUM!! Blueberry is the best in basked goods 😀
Awwww, what a sweet memory with your dad. Cobbler is actually my very most favorite dessert, apple to be exact, and warm of course with ice cream. My mom made something similar to this growing up, we called it dump cake. You dumped a can of cherry filling into a 9×13 then the cake mix, then the butter. We all loved it.
That sounds awesome!!! I wonder if it would work with other pie fillings!
Ive made tis kind of cobbler before, but mine was mixed berry 🙂 I actually prefer a crumb topping to a cobbler, so I always just make mine homemade. I have an individual peach cobbler recipe on my blog that my hubby BEGS for in the summer. He seriously loves it!
I need to try this! I absolutely love cobbler–my favorite is cherry or apple, though you can’t do wrong when ice cream is added!
I always find myself using so many ingredients in recipes which take so much time to prepare, so I really appreciate a recipe when it only has 4 ingredients! This cobbler looks great! 🙂
Haha it’s like a total recipe shortcut! 🙂
This sounds so easy and tasty! Love me some blueberries 🙂
Blueberry is certainly my favorite type of cobbler, and not just because you used it 🙂 Thanks for the idea!
