This simple Greek salad, called Maroulosalata, is made with crunchy romaine, salty feta, fresh herbs, and a simple dressing made from olive oil and lemon juice. It’s a classic salad that is delicious yet easy to make!
What is Maroulosalata?
Maroulosalata is a traditional Greek salad that is simple yet delicious. The name “maroulosalata” translates to “lettuce salad,” which is exactly what it sounds like. It is a refreshing and light salad made with finely chopped lettuce and tossed with a simple dressing of olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
Why I Love This Recipe
There is a local Greek restaurant here in Richmond called Stella’s that serves Maroulosalata. I’ve had it so many times and I love it so much, I decided to try making it at home. I love that this recipe is so simple and doesn’t require a lot of ingredients. It’s the perfect side dish to pair with some of my favorite Greek dishes, but I’ve also enjoyed it as a main dish, topped with roasted chickpeas!
Ingredients and Substitutions
Lettuce– I prefer a crunchy romaine for this salad but you can use iceberg, if that’s what you have on hand.
Feta– Technically, the feta is optional, but I think it adds a nice salty flavor.
Dill– Fresh dill adds a delicious and refreshing flavor. Don’t substitute for dried dill.
Parsley– Fresh parsley also adds an herbal, earthy flavor. I recommend flat leaf parsley but curly parsley works fine.
Scallions– These are also called green onions. I used the green part, only.
Olive oil– It’s important to use a high quality olive oil. I like O Olive Oil and California Olive Ranch.
Lemon– Fresh lemon juice is essential for the dressing.
