This burrito sauce recipe is perfect for adding flavor and spice to your favorite burrito! It’s easy to make and uses simple ingredients, but it’s so tasty you’ll want to drizzle it on all your burritos, tacos, and salads!

Burrito sauce can be used in a variety of ways. It can top tacos, burritos, sandwiches, nachos, quesadillas, and more. It can also be used as a creamy enchilada sauce, a topping for tacos, or even a chip dip. The possibilities for this sauce are endless! But my favorite way to use it is on my vegetarian burritos. It adds another layer of flavor that makes these burritos extra delicious!
What do you put in Burrito Sauce?
There are four main ingredients in this sauce. Mayonnaise, sour cream, lime juice, and chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. If you want to make it vegan, you can use vegan mayo and vegan sour cream.
What’s the difference between Burrito Sauce and Enchilada Sauce?
Burrito sauce is a mild, creamy sauce used as a topping or dip for burritos. It is usually made with sour cream, mayonnaise, chiles, and various spices. Enchilada sauce is a savory, spicy sauce made with chiles, tomatoes, and spices, typically used as a topping or filling in enchiladas.

How to Juice a Lime Without a Juicer
Roll the lime to soften it slightly. Cut the lime in half. Squeeze the lime half over a bowl to extract the juice. You can use a fork to press into the flesh of the lime to release more juice. Repeat with the second half.
How to Make Sauce Without a Blender
If you don’t have a blender or food processor, you can still make this burrito sauce! Use a sharp knife to cut the chipotle peppers into small pieces. Then use a spoon to stir together the chopped peppers, mayonnaise, sour cream, and lime juice. It won’t be quite as smooth but it still works great!
What to Do with Leftover Chipotle Peppers
- Use in soups and stews: Add a spoonful of the sauce into soups and stews for a smoky, spicy kick. It’s so good in my quinoa chickpea chili!
- Make a marinade: Combine the peppers and sauce with a bit of olive oil, lime juice, and cilantro to make a marinade for tempeh, tofu, or vegetables.
- Freeze it for later: Freeze the peppers and sauce in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
