For the past few weeks, I’ve been getting my workouts done in the morning rather than waiting until after work and I’ve been enjoying it more than I expected. While I’ve been a morning person for a while, I typically used my morning to enjoy coffee and get more blog related things done. Now I’m waking up a bit earlier and starting the day with a sweat session. It means I don’t have to worry about life getting busy or other things popping up and getting in the way of my daily workout.
I’ve always been a breakfast person, but now I get to the breakfast table and I’m starving. I know my body needs a little extra protein in the morning after a hard workout so I’ve been adding protein into my workout recovery smoothies.
So here’s one of my favorite workout recovery shakes!

Hello chocolate.
Tips for making the perfect brownie batter shake
- If you want to make your shake extra thick, free the banana slices overnight. Slicing them before freezing can make it easier to get a smooth consistency, even if you don’t have a really powerful blender.
- Justin’s makes a delicious chocolate hazelnut butter that is made from actual hazelnuts. (Don’t use Nutella... the first ingredient in Nutella is sugar.)
- If you can’t find chocolate hazelnut butter, feel free to use almond butter or peanut butter!
- To make this extra chocolatey, you can even add a teaspoon of cocoa powder before blending.
Once you have your ingredients ready, just blend until smooth!
You’ll see little specs of the cacao nibs in there! I love the texture they add. If you don’t have any, don’t worry about it but they do add a nice little crunch!
Pour and serve immediately! The shake should be nice and thick!
I love drinking protein shakes after my workouts. I use peanut butter, coffee, and banana to really amp up the flavor and consistency. Tastes like dessert!
Protein shakes are a must for me too after a morning workout! this one sounds so good!!

i wish i could do workouts in the morning too..when i squeeze one in, i feel better and have plenty of time in the evening. smoothies are my thing too..and im always looking for new protein powder to try, will look for this one.
Yay for mornings!! 🙂 I always drink a smoothie and eat a breakfast bar after my morning workout (while I’m enjoying my coffee and having some down time)! I love the way smoothies (especially with added protein powder) refuel and energize you for the rest of the day!
This is a recipe that my partner would absolutely love, he is so much into exercising and eating healthily. I do love healthy food myself, but unfortunately a bit lazy when it comes about exercising. I love the combination avocados and oats, it sounds just perfect to me.
I love the texture that avocados add to smoothies. And of course, the health benefits, as well. 😉 This shake sounds like a delicious breakfast! 🙂
This sounds wonderful as I love brownies! And I have the same ikea cups xx
You have such a gorgeous view for your yoga practice. I’m so jealous! My favorite post-workout snack is plain old chocolate milk after long runs, but I’ve been looking for a good protein powder. I really like the sound of this one. I’m going to have to try it out (in your delicious-looking shake of course). 😉
I;ve never tried this protein shakes, but im super curious. I think I have to buy some powder:)
I’ve not been very consistent at getting a post workout meal in, and I know that’s a bad habit… This looks like a great option!
