This Brownie Batter Dip is perfect when you’re craving a treat but you want to enjoy something healthy! The secret ingredient? Chickpeas! I promise, no one will know this dip is secretly good for you!
Why I Love This Recipe
Who doesn’t love digging into raw brownie batter? The problem is, when you’re making regular brownies, that batter has raw eggs and not a lot of nutritional value. This brownie batter? It’s made with chickpeas! The idea came to me when I was making my chickpea brownies. I kept wanting to lick the spoon and I realized the batter was actually safe for eating! So rather than putting the brownies in the oven, I scooped it into a bowl and started dipping in fruit, pretzels, and vanilla wafers. I was hooked!
This would also be a great dip to make for a party because you can easily prepare it in advance and keep it in the fridge for a couple of days. Then you can serve it with any of your favorite dippers. You could even pre-portion it into individual servings if you wanted to make it easy for people to grab a little dip!
Brownie Batter Ingredients
Chickpeas– Yep, chickpeas, also called garbanzo beans, are the base of this dip! Be sure to rinse them well, especially if there is added salt in the can.
Cocoa powder– This gives the brownie batter a chocolatey flavor. Cocoa powder isn’t sweet on its own so you can use your favorite sweetener.
Sugar– I’ve made this with brown sugar or coconut sugar and both options work great!
Coconut oil- The coconut oil adds a little fat and helps create a rich smooth batter.
Salt– I recommend tasting the batter first and then deciding if you want to add salt. If your peanut butter and chickpeas are salted, you may not need any additional salt.

you are truly evil! I made your dip for my family for game night and they almost licked the bowl clean, demanding that I make a double batch for our next game night!

Whoa. That’s crazy. This dip looks exactly like brownie batter. If you didn’t tell me there was chick peas in it, I would never have guessed. The flavour is sure to satisfy every chocolate lover.
This recipe is wonderful. I did substitute avocado oil instead of coconut oil but that is because my coconut oil has a strong coconut taste. It was great for dessert at game night.
I was a bit nervous making this, but your recipe nailed it! Creamy and chocolatey, nobody believed it was made with chickpeas! We stick toothpicks into strawberries, grapes and banana slices, perfect combo!
