Apple Cider Vinegar Smoothie
This apple cider vinegar smoothie is sweet and creamy with a hint of spicy flavor. This drink is packed with good-for-you ingredients for a healthy, delicious breakfast!
Why I Love This Smoothie
This smoothie is a great way to get in lots of healthy ingredients in one simple drink! It’s easy to blend and it’s a nutritious breakfast when you’re on the go. This recipe makes two small smoothies or one larger smoothie. If you want to add more protein, you can add a scoop of vanilla protein powder.
Is Apple Cider Vinegar Good For You?
If you’re not familiar with apple cider vinegar, it’s made from fermented apple juice. Some studies have shown that apple cider vinegar can improve insulin sensitivity and reduce blood sugar after eating. (Source) It can also help with digestion and reduce bloating. My friend Brittany wrote a great post about all the benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar, so if you’re curious to learn more, I suggest reading her post! One thing to note is that you shouldn’t consume apple cider vinegar without diluting it first, as it’s very acidic and can damage the enamel on your teeth. That’s why adding a splash to this smoothie is a great way to consume it!
Smoothie Ingredients
- Banana– For a thicker smoothie, I recommend freezing the banana in advance.
- Orange juice– This adds sweetness and helps balance the flavor.
- Apple cider vinegar– As I mentioned, apple cider vinegar can help with digestion and blood sugar balance.
- Ice– A little ice creates the frozen texture.
- Vanilla yogurt– A little yogurt adds sweetness as well as protein. I like using Icelandic style yogurt which is high in protein and lower in sugar.
- Ginger– Freshly grated ginger adds a spicy flavor.
Substitution Ideas
If you want to add more protein, feel free to add a scoop of vanilla protein powder! You can also use Greek yogurt in place of regular yogurt for even more protein. You can use plain yogurt if you want to cut down on sugar. If you don’t have ginger, feel free to leave it out.
How to Blend the Perfect Smoothie
If you don’t have a powerful blender, you may need to add a bit more liquid to get the smoothie to blend. If you want to make a spoonable smoothie, use a little less liquid for a thicker texture or freeze the orange juice in an ice cube tray the night before. If you want to make the texture of the smoothie thicker, follow my tips for super thick smoothies!
The Best Blenders for Smoothies
I’ve tested a variety of blenders and my all-time favorite is my Vitamix. It’s super powerful and can blend frozen fruit, ice, and greens into a perfect drink. But I know they’re expensive, so a great lower-cost option would be this Kitchen Aid blender which is less than $100. I have it and I’m impressed with how well it blends frozen ingredients. I also have this Nutribullet which is great for smaller, sippable smoothies. No matter what kind of blender you have, read my tips for how to get the best results from your blender.
How Do You Make a Smoothie Creamy?
In this recipe, the banana and the yogurt help create a creamy texture. If you wanted to make this recipe vegan, use a non-dairy yogurt. If you wanted to make it lower in sugar, you can use plain Greek yogurt. Other ingredients that can make a smoothie creamy are avocado, peanut butter, or cottage cheese. If you’re thinking cottage cheese sounds crazy in a smoothie, try this Blueberry Cheesecake Smoothie. You may be surprised at how much you love it!
Can I Add Vegetables to a Smoothie?
Yes! If you want to add even more nutrients to your smoothie, try adding a handful of spinach or 1/2 cup of frozen riced cauliflower. It’s an easy way to add more fiber to your smoothie and add bulk without adding calories. It can help you feel more full and satisfied while also adding vitamins and minerals to your drink!

I think that would work great!
Serving enjoyment mixed with the pleasure of having a smoothie of this sort.
Would like to know more on items involving Apple Cider Vinegar
I would love to drink healthy smoothies but it seems every recipe includes a banana. Â I despise bananas – their slimy texture and the overpowering taste in anything they ate in. Â I CHALLENGE you please to create smoothie recipes without banana (or coconut or coffee) Â Â
Hey JR! I actually just posted a new smoothie recipe without bananas: https://iheartvegetables.com/avocolada-smoothie-recipe/
JR, I have used cauliflowerthat’s been cooked on the stove and then frozen. You could try that.
Sub in frozen mango instead of banana. Similar consistence when blended and adds a sweetness like the banana is supposed to.Â
Where can I get that Apple Cider Vinegar Smoothie?Â
Does apple cider also help lose weight in this smoothie ???
I tried this smoothie just now..added vegan protein powder and peanut butter and oats to the mentioned ingredients and it’s wild. Love it..thank you. Will try the others
I never had apple cider vinegar smoothie. What a brilliant idea. lOoks refreshing and so healthy!
I love a good smoothie and this recipe was just what I was looking for. It was easy to make with great flavor. A perfect kick off to the start of my day!
I really like the smoothie. It so yummy.
I am lactose intolerant so I eat coconut milk yogurt. Do you think this would work? It is thinner than normal yogurt. The recipe looks awesome and I really want to try it.
You could perhaps freeze the yogurt to make it a bit thicker, or reduce your ratio of ice for more yogurt. Freezing your banana and OJ will also help.
Have fun with it and experiment! :}
