Tzatziki Sauce Recipe
This tzatziki sauce recipe is easy, creamy, and healthy! Use it as a spread on sandwiches or a dip with veggies or crackers!
First of all, I love hummus. I’ll never pass on a bowl of delicious garlickly hummus, dunking in carrots, bell pepper, or slices of warm pita. But sometimes I like to switch it up and go for tzatziki instead. While chickpeas are great, tzatziki has a nice dose of protein in there thanks to the Greek yogurt. For being a creamy and delicious sauce, it’s surprisingly healthy! I’ve made this tzatziki sauce recipe quite a few times, typically as a topping for something like this easy falafel recipe.
The best Greek yogurt for Tzatziki Sauce
I like using a whole milk Greek yogurt. Look for 2% or 5% milkfat. Fage makes a great 5% version that is so thick and creamy. It’s perfect for this recipe! If you want a lower calorie option, you can use 0% but it won’t be as thick. Make sure that whichever kind you get, it’s plain and unsweetened!
Tips for the perfect Tzatziki sauce
- Be sure to remove the cucumber seeds before grating. The seeds will make the sauce too watery and the texture of the seeds can be a little off-putting.
- Fresh dill is so delicious, use it if you can! Dried will work in a pinch but it’ll be more fragrant with fresh!
- Fresh lemon juice is also essential. The bottles of concentrate won’t do this recipe justice!

I love dipping cucumber slices, pita chips, or cherry tomatoes into this sauce. It’s seriously so addicting I could eat it with a spoon!
It’s versatile and it can be stored in the fridge for a few days so you can easily whip it up the day before a party! You could even use it as a salad dressing!
Creamy, dreamy, protein packed tzatziki! This is the perfect healthy dip!
I love tzatziki, I often use it as a salad dressing too! For veggies, hummus or baba ganoush for savory, just peanut butter otherwise 🙂
Tzatziki – so easy and such a great dip or side dish with a main course. Thanks for reminding me 🙂
This tzatziki sauce looks fresh and light. I think this would be great on just about anything. Gyros especially! Yum.
oh my gosh greek food is one of my favorites [mostly because of hummus – lets be honest] and I can only imgaine how delicious this would taste on a yummy falafel!
I love tzatziki! I put it on EVERYTHING when I make a batch, and the flavors are always so much better the next day!
we love Greek food and can eat Tzatziki sauce with a spoon. I think that makes some dishes are desperately improved by it.
Looks so yummy and delicious. Particularly like it on top of that Falafel 🙂
I was just watching something yesterday I think on the food network that used a tzatziki sauce! So funny, I was thinking I should make it!
Yes, yes and more yes! This is similar to how I make mine, but I always end up adding cucumber and cumin to it and turning into Indian raita. I am not ashamed. Thanks for sharing this though! I always forget about the lovely herb that is dill. For shame.
Thanks for this great recipe, I love tzatziki sauce but have never made it; this looks incredibly good tasting!
