Relay Foods Bounty Box Review
So remember that bounty box I was talking about? Well it’s time I give you some details on it, because I’ve decided it’s pretty freaking sweet. What is a bounty box you ask? It’s a giant box filled with tons of local produce, whatever is in season, delivered to a convenient location for pick up.
If you haven’t heard of Relay Foods, they’re a service that basically does your grocery shopping for you. You fill up your cart online, and they pack it up, and then drop it off at a specified pick up location, which for me, is at my workplace.
Reasons why I love it:
- Um, hello convenience!
- I’ve realized it can save me money, by eliminating impluse purchases
- It also helps me with my meal planning (no more forgetting things!)
- They have groceries from all different places, so I don’t have to go to Ellwoods, Whole Foods and Kroger
Those are some of the reasons I love it, but I’m sure you’d have your own reasons.
Full disclosure: I received this bounty box for free, in exchange for a review. But all opinions are my own!
So for my first Relay Foods order, I got a “bounty box” of produce. It came filled with potatoes, turnips, a giant butternut squash, some other sort of squash, apples, and quail eggs. This is a “half share” which is about $40, and the pick up service is free.
All of the vegetables were fresh, and they’re from local farms, which is awesome! It was also fun getting an assortment of produce that I might not have tried otherwise. I mean, how else would I have decided to try making those turnip and potato cakes?
I’ve already placed another regular grocery order, and I’m shocked at how the prices are pretty compareable to the regular store, for most things. I’m really excited to not have to make a separate trip to the store.
Now if you don’t mind, I’m going to go use my giant butternut squash to make these amazing butternut squash fries…
Then I might use up the potatoes in this potato soup recipe and the apples to make these apple chips…
Now if you live in Virginia and want to try Relay Foods for yourself, I’ve got a little bonus for you!
If it’s your first time trying Relay Foods, you can use the coupon code: “FTEQFP” when you check out, to save $15 on your first order over $50!

Hooray for local, fresh, organic produce delivered right to your door. That is awesome, and I will most definitely check out Relay Foods because my CSA is over and the spring session won’t start for another few months. I know you’re going to love your boxes, and it’s really fun to try to come up with yummy ways to make everything. I can’t wait to see how you put your new eats to good use.
That is awesome! I would love to have something like this in my area, sadly we do not even have a csa service 🙁
I have been meaning to place an order forever! Thank you for the discount code!
No problem! I hope you enjoy it! 🙂
P.S. I just had the “No-bull” veggie burgers that Relay Foods sells, (they’re made locally in Charlottesville) and they were delicious!
I’ve got to try butternut squash fries! They look exactly like sweet potato fries and look delish!
That’s pretty cool. I had never thought about buying groceries online but this service seems great. I’m going to look into it and see if it would work for us!
Yeah, it’s crazy easy! Hopefully Relay Foods will keep expanding!
quail eggs?! the foodie in me is SO intrigued! i hope you use them in a recipe!
So I have to admit that I didn’t eat the quail eggs but my boyfriend did and he said “they had a stronger flavor than chicken eggs and the yolks were tougher and had more texture. And there was a higher egg white to yolk ratio” haha hopefully that helps explain them 😉
Dude, they sent you some pretty awesome stuff! I’ve never ordered groceries online, but I have participated in a CSA box before and loved it! I am so intrigued by that mystery squash, is it some type of hybrid?!
I think I need to buy butternut squash now. Those fries look phenomenal
They are one of my favorite things EVER! If you haven’t tried making butternut squash fries, go do it!
I wish I had something like this near me!!!!
Wow quail eggs and everything, what a neat service! I love apple chips..I think I have an obsession I eat them everyday as my snack 🙂 I will definitely be checking out this service, thank you for sharing! Love + Shine CourtStar
