Pumpkin Pie Smoothie
This creamy pumpkin pie smoothie is the perfect way to enjoy fall flavors in a healthy smoothie! Packed with Greek yogurt, pumpkin, banana, and plenty of spices, this is a crave-worthy breakfast!
As soon as September hits, I’m ready for fall. Unfortunately, the temperatures in Richmond typically feel like summer until at least October… sometimes November. But this pumpkin pie smoothie is a great way to enjoy fall flavors when the temperatures are still warm! But no matter what the weather is like where you are, this smoothie is delicious year round!
If you want to take this smoothie to the next level, try adding crushed graham crackers on top! They’re like a tasty pie “crust” on top of this smoothie! You could also add granola, chopped pecans, or shredded coconut for more flavor and texture.
Ingredients & Substitutions
- Pumpkin Purée– Be sure to use plain canned pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling.
- Banana– I used a frozen banana to make the smoothie extra thick. If your banana isn’t frozen, it will still taste good, but the smoothie will be a little thinner.
- Milk– I used almond milk, but any kind of milk will work just fine.
- Yogurt– I used plain Greek yogurt, but you can use dairy-free yogurt or vanilla yogurt if you prefer. Adjust the sweetener based on the yogurt. If your yogurt has added sweetener, reduce or skip the maple syrup.
- Maple syrup– You can substitute honey or stevia for the maple syrup.
- Pumpkin Pie Spice– See below for making your own pumpkin pie spice. Or you can substitute cinnamon.
How to Make Pumpkin Pie Spice
I typically buy pre-made pumpkin pie spice, but you can make your own if you have a full spice rack in your kitchen! To make your own, combine:
- 2 tablespoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
The Best Blender for Smoothies
I’ve used a lot of blenders and my favorite of the bunch is my Vitamix. It’s incredibly powerful and can blend just about anything into a perfect smoothie. I know it’s an investment though, so if you’re looking for a great lower-cost option, try the Kitchen Aid blender which is less than $100. I have it, and I’m impressed with how well it blends frozen fruit. I also have a Nutribullet which is great for smaller, sippable smoothies. No matter what kind of blender you have, read my tips for how to get the best results from your blender.
Tips for Blending a Perfect Smoothie
If you don’t have a powerful blender, you may need to add more liquid to get the smoothie to blend. If you want to make a spoonable smoothie, use a little less milk for a thicker texture or add a handful of ice cubes to your smoothie. If you want to make the smoothie texture even thicker, follow my tips for super thick smoothies!
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I make this recipe vegan? Yes! Feel free to use dairy-free yogurt to make this recipe vegan. I like Kite Hill’s dairy-free yogurt.
- Can I make this without sugar? The banana naturally adds sweetness so you can skip the maple syrup if you prefer it less sweet. If you want to reduce the sugar but add sweetness, I recommend using a few drops of liquid stevia.
- Can I double the recipe? Yes! Although I do recommend enjoying it right away. It’s not something you want to store in the fridge for a long time.
