2 Ingredient Brownies
Did you know you can make brownies with just two ingredients? It’s true! All you need is a box of chocolate cake mix and a can of pureed pumpkin. See how easy it is to make this tasty dessert!
Sometimes I want to make brownies from scratch, like these double chocolate almond flour brownies. But sometimes I just want to make a super simple batch of brownies. That’s where these 2 ingredient brownies come in! By mixing a box of cake mix with a can of pumpkin, you can make delicious, fudgy brownies in no time.
The Brownie Mix for 2 Ingredient Brownies
I’ve tried this recipe with a lot of different types and brands. Betty Crocker’s fudge brownie mix is vegan, so if you wanted to keep this recipe dairy-free, that’s a great option! I’ve also used Trader Joe’s brownie truffle baking mix. The mix should be about 18oz, so just make sure it’s the right size box.
The Best Canned Pumpkin for Brownies
First of all, make sure you buy 100% canned pumpkin, not pumpkin pie mix. Pumpkin pie mix is much sweeter and contains other ingredients. Libby’s pureed pumpkin is a great option, but I’ve also used canned pumpkin from Trader Joe’s and Kroger. The only ingredient should be pumpkin! You’ll need one 15oz can.
How to Make 2 Ingredient Brownies
In a large bowl, combine the brownie mix and one 15oz can of pumpkin puree. You do not need to add any ingredients. The box will say you need to add things like oil and/or eggs, but just ignore this. The batter will be thicker than a typical brownie batter. Line an 8×8 pan with parchment paper and spread the brownie batter into the pan.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool, then slice into pieces and enjoy!
Do these brownies taste like pumpkin?
These brownies will have a subtle pumpkin flavor, but it’s not strong. If you want to amplify the pumpkin flavor, add 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice. This will strengthen the flavors of pumpkin to turn these into a tasty fall-themed dessert!

Have you ever tried the pumpkin + brownie mix combo? What do you make when you’re feeling lazy?
I’m awful at creating my own recipes, I tend to just find others’ and follow them pretty much to the T. I’ll have to experiment and branch out one day 🙂
I don’t even know if I’ve ever used a boxed mix but I have found myself interested in some of the organic or healthy varities. I love this idea for pumpkin brownies. Sounds so good
I’ve used pumpkin and cake mix to make “cookies” but haven’t tried it with brownies yet, but now you’ve seriously got me craving peanut butter topped brownies! Haha!
I don’t make a lot of sweets, but every now and then I get an itch. If I’m feeling lazy, I’m about 100% sure that my “dessert” would consist of a bowl of cereal or something schmeared with peanut butter! Hey, it’s sweet to me!
I definitely need to try the cake mix cookies! They sound easy and delicious!
I have made pumpkin brownies before but still had other ingredients in them. I am totally going to try these this weekend!
Awesome combo, I love pumpkin!

Can’t wait to try this brownie recipe. So easy.
I tried this last fall when pumpkin was on my brain, I think it’s good! I also like to do spice cake mix and pumpkin, sooo good!
When I am lazy…I really don’t make anything! haha. Ohhh I would love to try the pumpkin brownie combo….YUM 🙂
I love the lazy way! I’ve done pumpkin, applesauce, and even diet soda! 🙂
I’ve never tried the diet soda trick, but I’ve heard it works well!!! All these shortcuts make me wonder why I ever do it the “long” way 😉
