2 Ingredient Brownies
Did you know you can make brownies with just two ingredients? It’s true! All you need is a box of chocolate cake mix and a can of pureed pumpkin. See how easy it is to make this tasty dessert!
Sometimes I want to make brownies from scratch, like these double chocolate almond flour brownies. But sometimes I just want to make a super simple batch of brownies. That’s where these 2 ingredient brownies come in! By mixing a box of cake mix with a can of pumpkin, you can make delicious, fudgy brownies in no time.
The Brownie Mix for 2 Ingredient Brownies
I’ve tried this recipe with a lot of different types and brands. Betty Crocker’s fudge brownie mix is vegan, so if you wanted to keep this recipe dairy-free, that’s a great option! I’ve also used Trader Joe’s brownie truffle baking mix. The mix should be about 18oz, so just make sure it’s the right size box.
The Best Canned Pumpkin for Brownies
First of all, make sure you buy 100% canned pumpkin, not pumpkin pie mix. Pumpkin pie mix is much sweeter and contains other ingredients. Libby’s pureed pumpkin is a great option, but I’ve also used canned pumpkin from Trader Joe’s and Kroger. The only ingredient should be pumpkin! You’ll need one 15oz can.
How to Make 2 Ingredient Brownies
In a large bowl, combine the brownie mix and one 15oz can of pumpkin puree. You do not need to add any ingredients. The box will say you need to add things like oil and/or eggs, but just ignore this. The batter will be thicker than a typical brownie batter. Line an 8×8 pan with parchment paper and spread the brownie batter into the pan.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool, then slice into pieces and enjoy!
Do these brownies taste like pumpkin?
These brownies will have a subtle pumpkin flavor, but it’s not strong. If you want to amplify the pumpkin flavor, add 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice. This will strengthen the flavors of pumpkin to turn these into a tasty fall-themed dessert!

Have you ever tried the pumpkin + brownie mix combo? What do you make when you’re feeling lazy?
Trader Joe’s truffle brownie mix rocks! When I’m feeling lazy, I make Betty Crocker pb cookies but add in a ton of chocolate or pb chips or even mini pb cups..no one ever suspects that they’re semi-homemade. Shhh lol
Semi-homemade is normally how I operate 😉 I’m all about the short cuts!
That’s it. I’m making some pumpkin brownies for the boy and I tonight (:
xo.
My man friend loved them! (Even though he’s always skeptical about everything I cook/make. He’s so not a healthy eater!)
I made these last fall and they were a huge hit! Everyone wanted to have the recipe lol little did they know it was the easiest thing ever 🙂
I love throwing the pumpkin into a brownie mix! I think you can do it for a cake mix too! I learned that from Hungry Girl! Looks yummy!! I bet trader joes brownies are delicious!!
I think Hungry Girl has a peanut butter version too! YUM!
I have made the pumpkin / brownie mix..yum..
I also like to work with box cake mix and go from there — so easy, so good!
Thanks for reminding me about the pumpkin brownies. I still haven’t tried them, but I keep meaning to! You can also use plain yogurt. I’ve also seen white cake mix made with a can of pineapple chunks (made into cupcakes!)
I’ve made cookies with a pan of pumpkin and a spice cake mix. 🙂 Just throw in some chocolate chips and you are saying pumpkin HEAVEN! 🙂 That’s what I make when I’m feeling lazy but need to bring a treat. They are always a hit — and healthier than a lot of cookies.
That’s a great idea!!! I’ve never tried it with spice cake!
Omggg that brownie sounds so cool!! Chocolate + pumpkin go well together indeed 🙂 I have a recipe for chocolate pumpkin pudding on my blog!
I’ve never thought to use pumpkin with a baking mix like this, what a great idea! Makes for some yummy (and pretty good for you) brownies I’m sure, great trick. Have a great friday!
It’s super easy, and so much healthier! You can’t really taste the pumpkin (which means you can pass these off as regular brownies!) or you can add pumpkin pie spice to make the pumpkin more noticeable!
seriously. chocolate and pumpkin are my two FAVORITES. you should totally make these again… and then call me so i can taste test 🙂 <3
