This delicious flatbread is made in the air fryer for a quick and easy recipe you can make in no time! Use this flatbread as a base for your favorite pizza toppings, for sandwich bread, or as a side dish for soup!

I love fresh bread, whether it’s a loaf of bread, a homemade biscuit, or a simple pita bread. The best part about this homemade flatbread is that you can make it in the air fryer in about 15 minutes! This flatbread can be used as a base for pizza toppings, or you can enjoy it as a side with your favorite meal. The possibilities for this air fryer flatbread are endless!
Flatbread Ingredients
- Self-Rising Flour- Self-rising flour is a type of flour that has been premixed with a leavening agent and salt. If you don’t have self-rising flour, you can make your own with the directions below.
- Yogurt- I recommend using plain yogurt, although you can use Greek yogurt if you’d like to make this recipe with more protein. Be sure the yogurt is plain and not sweetened.
- Olive oil- A little oil helps create a soft texture in the dough. I also used a little extra oil brushed on the bread for even more flavor. You can substitute it with avocado oil or any neutral oil.
- Salt or seasonings- This is optional, but if you want to add salt or seasonings to the dough for more flavor, you can do that before baking.

What is Self Rising Flour?
Self-rising flour is a type of flour that has been premixed with a leavening agent and salt. It is typically made from a combination of all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. The leavening agent in self-rising flour is usually baking powder, a mixture of baking soda, and a dry acid, such as cream of tartar. When self-rising flour is combined with liquid, the baking powder reacts with the acid and produces carbon dioxide gas, which helps to leaven the flatbread dough and give it a light and fluffy texture.
How to Make Self-Rising Flour
Self-rising flour is simple to make at home. The ratio is 1 cup of all-purpose flour mixed with 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt. This makes slightly more than 1 cup of self-rising flour.
The Best Type of Air Fryer
I’ve had a few different air fryers, but my favorite is the Ninja Foodi Grill because it has a large basket and it can bake, air fryer, roast, and dehydrate. If you have limited counter or storage space, you may want to choose a smaller air fryer. But I recommend getting the largest one you can comfortably store if you plan to cook for a crowd or want to be able to cook larger items. You don’t want the food to be crowded in the basket, so the larger basket, the more food you can make.

Things to Do With Flatbread
There are plenty of different ways you can use this flatbread but here are a few of my favorites:
- Flatbread pizzas: This flatbread dough can be used as a base for pizzas. Just top with marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, fresh basil, and any toppings you like!
- Appetizers: Flatbread can be cut into small pieces and served with dips or spreads like hummus or my spicy jalapeño dip!
- Side dish: This flatbread is similar to naan and could also be enjoyed with curries, soups, or stews.
- Sandwiches: Flatbread can be used as sandwich bread and topped with your favorite sandwich toppings. Try my curried chickpea salad!
Herbs to Add to Flatbreads
If you want to play around with the flavors of this flatbread, try adding herbs and spices to the dough! When adding the herbs, you can either sprinkle them over the top of the dough before baking or mix them into the dough itself. Try adding one teaspoon of Italian seasoning to the dough before baking. Experiment with different herbs to find the combination that works best for you.
Flatbread vs. Pizza Dough
Flatbread dough and pizza dough are similar, but flatbread dough is typically made with all-purpose flour, while pizza dough is sometimes made with a coarser, higher-protein flour, such as bread flour. This gives pizza dough a chewy, elastic texture that is well-suited to supporting toppings. Flatbread dough, on the other hand, is often softer and more pliable, making it easier to roll out and shape. Flatbread dough is usually allowed to rise for a shorter period of time than pizza dough, which results in a flatter, thinner final product.
How to Make Flatbread in the Oven
If you don’t have an air fryer, you can bake these flatbreads in the oven at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is flatbread healthy? Flatbread can definitely be a part of a healthy diet! It is made from flour, which provides essential nutrients such as fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals. However, like any food, you should also be mindful of portion sizes and consider serving your flatbread with protein and vegetables to make a balanced meal.

How to Store Leftover Flatbreads
Cool the flatbread completely before storing it. If it’s still warm when stored, it can become soggy or mold more quickly. Place it in a resealable plastic bag or wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. This will help to keep it fresh and prevent it from drying out. Store the flatbread in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. If you don’t think you’ll be able to eat it within that time frame, you can freeze it for up to 3 months. To thaw frozen flatbread, place it in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight, or place it in the microwave for a few seconds on the defrost setting. When you’re ready to enjoy the flatbread, you can warm it in the oven, on the stovetop, or in the microwave. This will help to restore its texture and flavor.

So frustrating! The dough never came together. I had to add a little bit of water. I cooked some and it’s tasteless, very bland.
This is a great recipe. They are delicious.
These were so easy to make. My husband and I are empty nesters this year, so being able to make individual pizzas with this flatbread has been awesome. Thanks for the great recipe.
