Half Marathon Training Plan
Training for a half marathon? I ran one in 2012 and since then, I’ve become a NASM certified personal trainer and I’ve learned a few tips and tricks along the way!
In 2012, signed up for the Richmond Half Marathon because I was in the mood for a new fitness goal. The longest distance I had run previously is a 10K, so this will definitely push me!
As for a training schedule, I loosely followed this half marathon training plan from Fitness magazine.
I was already in the habit of walking a lot. I’ve been a big fan of wearing fitness trackers (check out why I switched from Fitbit to Garmin) and I love having a goal in mind!
I’ve also made the most of my treadmill by building this DIY Treadmill Desk. This makes it easy to walk and work at the same time! When I’m in the mood for a workout but I don’t feel like running, I do this walking treadmill workout.
I’ve found that small behaviors like hitting 10,000 steps a day and walking while working have set me up nicely to be able to hit bigger fitness goals like a half marathon!
What fitness goals are you working on?
I know what you mean about the accountability 😉 but wow, that’s brilliant!
The training programme looks good and your attitude’s perfect; you’ve got to have a life and I think eating when you’re hungry and stopping when you’re full is perfect!
Oh Wow! Good luck with your training, you will do great!
Such a smart idea to plan imperatives- these will most likely would’ve been your biggest issues and you’re being up front with yourself about them. Good for you!!!
Yay, this is such an exciting goal! I signed up for my first half marathon really last minute, so didn’t have a long time to plan for it. Get ready for some great thinking time (I always think great on long runs :))
ahhh so exciting!! That looks very similar to the plan I used to run my first (and so far, only) half, and it worked really well! I was able to run the whole thing with no problem!
Yay! That’s good news! There were so many different training plans, but this one looked like lots of shorter runs, which I liked!
Yayayay congrats!!!
awesome! good luck on your run.
Sounds like a great plan! Best of luck with your training!
I love this! I will aspire to run one… but have to get that 10k under my belt first. 😉
A 10K is a great goal!!! That’s the most I’ve done so far! It’s a fun distance 🙂
I’m thinking next spring. I’m still slow with my 5ks and I have a two-week trip abroad coming up that would interrupt any training schedule. At least I have 3 5ks planned until then!
Yay! Congrats!!!! I love your approach to it too, if I ever decide to train for a race, I’m going to approach it the same way 🙂
