What I’m Loving Lately
It’s been a while since I’ve shared what I’m loving lately, so let’s just dive right in!
I’ve been on a house kick recently. When we moved into our house a couple of years ago, the office became the dumping ground for things we didn’t know what to do with and the “I’ll-deal-with-it-someday” pile was getting overwhelming. It was the one room that hadn’t been painted or styled and as a result, we weren’t really using the room. Finally, I decided to toss the things we didn’t need, get rid of the things I didn’t like, and buy a few new pieces to help tie the room together.
My favorite find was this vintage chair I snagged on CraigsList for $40! Don’t you love finding a steal? We kept the same desk and just switched out the old rug for a new, more modern one.
We got these marble shelves from World Market and they are so heavy but Alex was a good sport, spending a Saturday afternoon mounting them to our plaster walls. I haven’t totally decided how I want to style them but for now, it’s succulents and small containers!
I’ve also been loving the home accessories from H&M. I don’t think they carry much of it in stores (at least not around here) but I ordered some fun pillow covers and accessories online.
How cute is this pillow cover?! They have a bunch of different ones for less than $10, which is such a cheap way to switch up a room!
Now that the weather has been warming up, I’m starting to focus on our outdoor space. I’m a total novice when it comes to anything gardening-related so I decided to chat with a pro. There’s a local nursery here in Richmond (Sneed’s) that does consultations for $25 which seemed like money well spent considering that everything I’ve planted in the past hasn’t survived very well.
I was feeling totally overwhelmed trying to figure out what would look right, so it was a relief having an expert sketch out some designs for us. I’m excited to do some landscaping!
I’ve been reading more lately, which is a nice change of pace. I recently finished For The Love which was awesome. It’s sort of a random collection of life advice and it pretty much covers everything from your expectations in life to parenting. I even enjoyed the parenting sections, even if they’re not totally relevant right now 😉
I also skimmed through The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. I know people tend to have strong feelings on the Kon Mari method but I like the general idea. I think it gets a little too…”out there” for me but the idea of having less stuff around is appealing. I’ve been purging a lot of junk and trying to focus on buying quality items that I won’t have to replace all the time. I know I literally just showed you all the things I bought but I’ve been trying to buy things I really love, not just the first thing I find.
What a clean and neat desk/chair situation you have going on! I am not that classy hahahaha!
I love that pineapple pillow! So cute!
Your office is swoon-worthy!
That book sounds really good! Have you read ‘Grace for the Good Girl?’ I’ve heard it recommended by a lot of friends. I would love to read it, but I haven’t yet.
Also, your home is like a designer home; it’s so pretty.
I bet it feels like spring there; those plants are so green.
Those marble shelves are great! We are doing some decorating now as well. I will go check out world market too
H&M has such great home finds! I’ve gotten a few things from there. Also, Target is a great spot for home finds and they rotate designs, which is even better!
I NEED one of those pillows! My girlfriends and I have a joke about finding a pineapple every where we go because the series “Psych” had a pineapple in every episode. If I just got one pillow, I wonder if they would notice. 🙂
Got that book now on my to-read list!
I liked Kon Mari – but it in the sense that it changed my mindset when I took ALL the clothing out and instead thinking, “will I need this someday” or “but it’s still brand new,” I thought, “Do I love it? Do I feel good when I’m wearing it RIGHT NOW?” and questions like that. I think that her phrase “Does it bring you joy?” gets a little lost in translation and sounds a little kooky. But I get the gist. That’s why a framed it just a little bit differently. I can tell you that for having “no clothes” I sure did send a lot more bags away than I thought I would. I can also say that there is not one time that I said, “I wish I had X BACK!” Instead, I feel freer and more organized in my closet and have room for new stuff! 🙂 It’s changed my mindset also in the way that I will only buy what I truly love and fits just right, too. 🙂
I haven’t done it with any other items in my home. I’m not sure that I want to or need to… at least not at this point.
Happy weekend!
I did not even know that H&M did accessories for the home! I absolutely love that pillow…and I want a vintage chair for $40! Score!
Your office looks so cute! Love the chair and the marble shelves!
Love the pineapple pillow…so cute! My father is in the process of building me built-in shelves for our office, so I can totally understand how you feel about the moment everything starts to come together and feel uncluttered. After the shelves, we get new plantation shutters, new carpeting, and maybe, just maybe, a floor that is even with no mysterious antique house bumps underneath of it!
