Grapefruit Smoothie
This creamy grapefruit smoothie is a delicious way to kickstart your morning. Sweet pineapple, tart grapefruit, and creamy Greek yogurt come together for a nutrient-packed drink!

I’ve always loved grapefruit and the combination of this tart citrus with sweet pineapple is so perfect in a smoothie. The addition of Greek yogurt and vanilla protein powder makes this smoothie extra creamy, protein-packed, and perfect for a post-workout snack or a light breakfast.
Ingredients & Substitutions
- Grapefruit โ Be sure to remove all the pith (the white membrane) from the grapefruit because it can make the smoothie bitter. I used fresh grapefruit, but you can use canned if necessary. Be sure it doesn’t have added sugar or syrup.
- Pineapple โ Frozen pineapple chunks add natural sweetness and a frosty texture. Fresh pineapple works too, but you might want to include a few ice cubes for thickness.
- Vanilla Protein Powder โ I used Clean Simple Eats whey protein, but you can substitute with plant-based protein or skip it if you prefer.
- Greek Yogurt โ Plain Greek yogurt adds creaminess and protein. For a sweeter option, use vanilla Greek yogurt.
- Almond Milk โ Unsweetened almond milk keeps it light, but feel free to use any milk you prefer, like soy milk or dairy milk.
- Honey or Maple Syrup โ Optional, but a small drizzle enhances sweetness. You can also try a sugar-free sweetener like stevia or monk fruit. I didn’t add any additional sweetener since the protein powder added enough sweetness.
Why I Love Grapefruit
Grapefruit is a powerhouse of nutrition. Packed with vitamin C, it supports a healthy immune system, and its high water content helps keep you hydrated. Pairing it with pineapple, which is rich in digestive enzymes, makes this smoothie a nutrient-dense option for your morning. If you’re looking for other ways to use this citrus fruit, try my grapefruit parfait or grapefruit avocado salad.
Types of Grapefruit
There are a few different types of grapefruits, each with its unique flavor and characteristics, although any can be used in this smoothie. The most common types include Ruby Red, known for its sweet, but slightly tart taste and vibrant red flesh. White Grapefruit is a little harder to come by and it has a similar flavor but a pale interior. Pink Grapefruit is a balance between sweet and tart with a light pink hue. I usually just grab whatever is on sale!
