A Day of Eats in Austin
Ironically, as I was snapping a photo of my morning coffee, I was sitting in a SXSW interactive session called “Eating to Live Online: Virtual Food & Real Life” which was a panel session about, well, this. They started with the question “Does anyone really care what you’re eating?” And where it landed was, well, yes. Companies care. Your friends care. Politicians care. Brands care. People care. And Jenn’s WIAW party cares. But more about the session is at the bottom of this post. For now, let’s get to yesterday’s eats.
Breakfast
I had a banana topped with a lot of PB2 and a little bit of KIND granola. I munched on this while catching up on e-mails, then I squeezed in a quick 20 minute circuit workout. I’ve been doing so much walking around Austin, I’ve kept my workouts pretty short.
This kept me surprisingly full. Normally my stomach starts growling by 10:30, but this really kept me satisfied. Must be the PB2!
Lunch
Brittany recommended the Blue Dahlia Bistro, and it certainly did not disappoint. My friend Erica and I split this hummus platter, and then I devoured most of this towering salad.
That lunch kept me super full through the rest of the sessions in the afternoon, although I did munch on a clementine.
For dinner, Kate and Erica and I met up with my blogger-friend Brittany at Hopdoddy. (Yes I went to this place twice.) It’s that good. They use a lot of local, organic ingredients, and they had one of the most fantastic veggie burgers I’ve ever had. It could compete with Northstar Cafe. And they have kombucha (made locally in Austin), so that’s an automatic win. My burger was enjoyed with fries and half of a salted caramel milkshake. Oh, and a Sangarita. (A sangria margarita!)
Overall, I was able to enjoy a lot of relatively healthy food (although I ate wayyy too much!) and it was fun trying so many vegetarian friendly places! I really did love Austin, although I have to admit I was ready to get back to RVA.
This didn’t feel like this was the right place to write about the sessions, but if you’re curious about some of what I learned, I’ll be posting some recaps on Tumblr. Here’s my recap on the Eating to Live Online: Virtual Food & Real Life panel discussion, which was all about food blogging, and our cultural relationship with food.
I’m so jealous of you in Austin! I bet you are having a blast! I care what you’re eating 🙂 I love to get ideas from other people and have enjoyed so many new foods from reading blogs!
That panel sounds so interesting and I love that the conclusion was that people do actually care about seeing what we eat – as much as we like to share it 😉
I (obviously) love seeing what people eat. It was actually viewing healthy bloggers’ websites that inspired me to clean up what I was eating, and I swear it was partially that that helped me lose weight! Glad you had a good time!
It definitely helps keep me on track, seeing others make healthy decisions as well!
That hummus looks like a big scoop of ice cream! 🙂 I’m not a fan, but I think I’d really love that salad. It looks so good!
Yum! All of your food looks delicious! I love to see what others are eating and get ideas for my meals. I’m one of those that likes to eat something different all the time.
pb2 and bananas are my fav!
So I missed it. What is PB2?
PB2 is peanut flour… basically peanuts with the oil pressed out. You mix it with water and it forms a paste, similar to peanut butter, but with less fat and calories! I did a post on it a long time ago, here:

“Normal” people may not think that people care about what other people eat throughout the day, but when have we food bloggers EVER been referred to as “normal”?? I love sneaking peeks into other people’s daily eats! It’s a great way to get inspiration to try new foods and new combos! Plus, I’m just “weird” and like looking at pictures of food…which is why I spend most of my time either reading food blogs or perusing Food Gawker! Lol
Lately, I’ve been eating a lot of “easy” meals…yogurt, cereal, eggs, already made and ready to be heated up soup, and I’ve been treating myself to a “healthy” dessert nearly every night…either a Chobani Flip (their key lime is amazing) or Arctic Zero (which I KNOW you can appreciate!) 😀
You know I love Arctic Zero! I definitely need to get my hands on some of those Chobani Flips though. They look amazing!
I thought SXSW was a music thing? All of your food looked super yummy! I will book mark those places if I am ever in Austin. Never heard of a Sangarita…did you enjoy it?
SXSW actually has three parts! Music, interactive, and Film! I went to the interactive sessions which were a lot of speakers and panel discussions about business, marketing, digital, etc. I highly recommend it!
Ive been loving paleo muffins with peanut butter, also Ive been experimenting with PB2 a lot in desserts and such!
