What I Ate [in D.C.] Wednesday

Last week was Manhattan, this week, it’s D.C.! I’m up in Northern Virginia for a couple of days for work, so it’s nothing major, but it does throw my food routine off a little bit. I’ve learned to be flexible!

Morning

I started the day off with some protein packed Chobani with blueberries and a bit of the Love Grown Granola, that I got from the Blogger’s Brunch on Sunday. Sooooo delicious! I think I could eat this combo at any time, any day, for any meal. Yes, it’s that good (and I am that boring).

Lunch

By the time lunch rolled around, I was pretty hungry. Thankfully, there were some healthy options. I had some roasted vegetables, orzo pasta, and some greens with a raspberry vinegrette. (I also had half of an unpictured brownie…)

After lunch I also snagged an apple, which I munched on around 4pm.

Workout

We got out of the conference a bit early, so I had time to squeeze in a super quick workout. Maybe it was because I was pressed for time, and wanted to get a really efficient workout, but however it happened… I PRed a mile!

I know this isn’t fast compared to a lot of you, but as Meg said, it’s not about beating anyone but yourself!  I’ve never really run for time, so it was fun to actually see a mile go by so fast!

Dinner

Ahh the awkward trying-to-take-a-picture-at-a-work-function situation. I actually totally forgot until after I had consumed some salad, broccoli, and spaghetti! We also had cheesecake for dessert, which was heavenly! I could only squeeze in a few bites, but it was excellent!

This definitely wasn’t a “normal” day of eating, but it was a fun Tuesday for sure! I’m learning to chill out about an “off” day. And besides, maybe it’s all that food that powered me through that mile so fast ;)

I hope you’re all having a fabulous week!

Do you freak out when your routine is thrown off, or have you learned to adapt?

Comments

  1. Sometimes I freak out when my routine gets jacked up, but I’ve gotten a lot better over the years at being more flexible. I’m so glad you had such a great time with everyone in DC! That lunch looks delicious too :)

  2. I actually used to get someone panicky when my schedule was thrown off but I have since learned to adjust. You can only do what you can. I love your blog by the way girl! That salad looks so good!

  3. Woohoo great job on the mile! Definitely only compare to yourself, no one else :D

  4. I don’t really freak out, but I feel weird if my routine is thrown off haha. And um, your mile time is amazing!! I’ll be lucky if I ever get below 10 minutes :( I think I’m averaging around 11.5 or something : I’m doing the Couch to 5K so I’m hoping I can make my mile time a little better as this goes on!I

  5. When I’m training for something, yes I freak out a little. Now that I’m not at the moment, I’m trying to be more relaxed about eats/workouts, but it’s hard to get out of the habit!

  6. katalysthealth says:

    congrats on the PR :)
and yes, Im a total creature of habit, so when something throws me off, I tend to freak easily!

  7. I definitely freak out a bit, I have a friend staying with me for a few days and so I haven’t been able to fit in my workouts and we eat out like everyday, but I’m learning to adapt

  8. Great job on the mile Speedy! A PR is always awesome, no matter how far or fast.

I’m glad the cheesecake was heavenly. That’s something I can always make room for!

  9. congrats on the mile PR!!

i used to definitely freak out if my routine got out of routine. but i’ve learned to adapt! and i’ve learned to be okay with it and roll with whatever comes my way :)

  10. Woo congrats on the mile PR Liz! That is wonderful :) I have issues when my routine is messed up, but I have gotten so much better about it!

  11. YES that is my perfect breakfast (or lunch, snack, dinner): Chobani, blueberries, LoveGrown. Done. :)

I have trouble when my schedule’s thrown off, especially when I’m traveling or commuting. It’s tough, but we’ve all got to do our best to adapt.

Congrats on your PR! Thats certainly fast to me!

  12. I use to really freak out if my routine was off, but I am totally use to it by now. Seems that my routine it always off track!

  13. So much travel! And heck, it’s nice to be thrown off schedule every once in a while, even if it seems uncomfortable at first. It’s too easy to get tied down to a routine!

  14. yay for a PR! congrats liz!

  15. I’m not big on routine, so I definitely like it when things are a little off kilter!

  16. I have to admit to being such a creature of habit, any change throws me! Having said that, if a dinner – and cheesecake – like that was involved, I’m sure I could cope :-)
I could eat that breakfast combination at any time of day, any number of times a day, too, you can’t beat it!

  17. Way to go with that mile!! It’s definitely all about challenging yourself, not being the best. That’s why I love running!

  18. Haha! I know what you mean about that awkward trying-to-take-a-food-photo-with-professional-people-around. Ah, the joys of being a blogger, haha!

  19. I love that you still eat well AND workout on the road! It can be hard to do – well done! Enjoy D.C.!

  20. I’m pretty picky about sticking to my food routine when traveling. It usually involves packing food to take with (apples, nuts, home-made granola bars) and trying to stay in a hotel within walking distance of a Whole Foods! I’m in DC next week – love traveling there!

  21. I do like sticking to a routine but over the past few months I have learned to adapt and feel settled with abrupt changes that may occur.

  22. I am a routine girl, I much prefer eating at my own home than anywhere else. Restaurants are much better these days though and most offer healthy options so it’s great.

  23. I hate it when my routine gets thrown off but I’m getting better at dealing with disruptions. Like when I start getting panicky at the prospect of getting less than 8 hrs of sleep or not having time for my morning snack, I remind myself that I’m not going to die from being slightly tired or hungry… lol….

  24. Ummm I love that your awkward photo at the work function turned out to be a picture of an empty plate. Anyone notice you taking it? :)

  25. I FREAK out about the thought of my routine getting messed up. But I actually adapt pretty well ‘in the moment’
