The Good. The Bad. The Habits. (Part 1)

I’m a creature of habit. Which is strange, because I also get bored easily. I guess what I mean is, I want to do what I want to do when I want to do it… until I get bored… then I want to do something else. Sounds reasonable, no?

There are certain things that I have to do each day… or I’m… a bit grumpy.

1. Coffee

Don’t mess with my morning coffee. I need a cup of java + almond milk + truvia. Otherwise, I’m in a haze the rest of the day.

2. Breakfast

You probably think this goes hand in hand with the coffee. But it doesn’t. Breakfast is not just this deliciousness:

(Although if I’m ever out of bananas, almond milk, truiva or peanut butter. I’m super sad because that bowl of awesomeness can’t happen.) Breakfast also must be accompanied by the Wall Street Journal. I must read the paper while eating my breakfast. Call me an old man, but it’s true. And no, the online edition is not the same. I need to spread out that not-so-eco-friendly paper. Deal with it people.

3. The gym

I’m actually really consistent with my workouts. It’s pretty rare that I miss a day at the gym. However, I don’t always push myself at the gym. That’s the bad part of this habit. Just because my butt is at the gym, doesn’t mean that butt is really getting a workout on.

4. Music

I pretty much have to have music on no matter what I’m doing. Cleaning, working, exercising, driving… I don’t like silence. I like to tell myself that music helps me focus, but that’s probably a lie. I actually just like dancing in my head. (Or bouncing on my exercise ball at work, as the case may be.)

What are some of your habits? Good ones, bad ones, share them!

  5. I need my morning coffee every single day. The one day that I don’t drink it, I get major withdrawal headaches. Plus I turn into a very cranky monster. :)

  6. I’ve had pretty much the same morning routine for almost 2 years (at least) now. Shower. Blow dry hair. Start coffee. Start makeup. Eat breakfast with news on. Finish hair and makeup. Out the door.

Oh and somewhere in there, I put clothes on… oops.

  8. I love this! You make me feel normal! Yay! I HAVE to have oats for breakfast. It’s not a good day if there are no oats or coffee. I am the same way with working out. I do it Monday through Friday, but sometimes it’s not so good.

  11. Did you really say that you have an exercise ball at work???
That’s awesome, and I am super jealous.
I have music playing constantly. I even have it on while I’m in the shower. I say that it helps me relax. Deep down, I know that it is because I love dancing and pretending that I’m a famous singer.
I don’t drink coffee. I drink hot chocolate in the morning. That really isn’t the same thing, but both are hot drinks that we need to have in order to function, so I guess it counts.
If I don’t have breakfast, I die. I will seriously pass out two hours after I get up if I don’t eat something, and I always eat the same thing – strawberry Eggo waffles. I’m a simple person when it comes to food.
And the gym — well, we know my obsession there.

This was a long and lame comment. Too bad. You love it.

    • Duh I love it. Your comments ooze awesomeness. (Ew, did I just say ooze? Yes, I did.)

I’ve never had strawberry eggo waffles, but I used to eat Strawberry Special K every morning, until I realized that cereal is more of a snack food for my tummy. It doesn’t fill me as a breakfast.

But breakfast MUST happen. Fo’ sho.

  13. I have to hit the gym in the AM as well. And breakfast. HOW DO PEOPLE NOT EAT BREAKFAST? I never believe it when someone says they do not. My other habits include ALWAYS having to have a book with me, no matter where I’m going, no matter how unlikely reading time there is. It’s my adult security blanket :)

I have to have breakfast and my feather pillow when I sleep! We only have one feather pillow in the house (it’s from before we moved in together) and I have to sleep on it or I don’t sleep well :) J is a stomach sleeper though so he doesn’t seem to mind too much!

  18. My bad habits these days are too wide-spread to recount ;-) . To name just one…messiness. It’s a reflection of my inner self. When I’m feeling more grounded and focused, my room’s neater. When I’m not as grounded, it’s messy.

In total agreement on the music! I’ve walked halfway to the gym only to realize I forgot my iPod. I will dash back and grab it.

  19. I’m with you here! I am such a creature of habit about some things, and with others I am completely fickle. Beauty products? I can never buy the same one 2x in a row because I get bored. But certain things like coffee, I can’t live without and never get tired of.

  20. My morning staples are breakfast, blogs and decaf coffee (I just like the warm cup and sipping :) )
I wish workouts were a part of the morning, but luckily I fit it in later in the day.

  26. Can I just say that I love the sound of your morning cafe? Points to ya, girl, ’cause nowadays coffee is just a bunch of sugah, sugah, and more sugahh and it kills me knowing people are chugging down numerous cups of that stuff for a morning buzz and all it is is empty calories. If I ever started drinking mr.coffee – I’d go your route with the bean, nut-milk of choice just a simple, natural touch of sweet! You go girl!
