What I Ate Yesterday
Life has been busy ever since I got home from Austin so I’ve spent surprisingly little time in the kitchen. I’ve been eating out a lot lately which is more due to social events than a lack of desire to cook. Yesterday was no exception!
I started the morning off with a protein shake. I’m kind of obsessed with the About Time Whey Protein Powder. (<– affiliate link) The Birthday Cake flavor is amazing. I had bought it for a couple of years but now it’s back in my rotation of cravings.
I know this looks boring but it was 1 frozen banana, a handful of ice cubes, 1/2 scoop of whey protein, and 2 tablespoons of peanut butter. Something about the frozen banana and the whey protein make the texture of this smoothie so light and fluffy. This hit the spot and kept me full through a busy morning of work.
After lots of emails and crossing things off my to-do list, I took a break for lunch. My coworker and I walked to the cafeteria across the campus which has some of my favorite salad bar fixings.
This massive salad was amazing. Black beans, pinto beans, pico de gallo and tons of veggies. Why do shredded carrots taste so much better than regular carrots? Does anyone else feel this way?
I had a productive afternoon full of phone calls but I was excited to wrap up work just before dinnertime. My best friend and her sister in law were in town from Virginia Beach so I met them at Lemon. I’d actually never eaten inside but it’s my favorite for take out so I was excited for the full dining experience. It did not disappoint!
I had aloo gobi with some naan. It’s literally what I get every time. The channa masala is good too, but this one is my favorite! I should mention that the rice was for the whole table… which is why that’s a lot of rice. I only ate half of my veggies (and all the naan…) and took the rest home for lunch! It was fun catching up with the girls!
After dinner, I headed over to a friend’s house for book club. We’re reading Lean In so it was a #girlboss kind of discussion. Love love loved it. I didn’t get home until 10:30 pm (which is past my bedtime) but it was worth it. I was so fired up I almost couldn’t go to sleep! It’s so inspiring being around women with such different perspectives. I can’t wait to keep reading!
Do you go out to eat often or do you cook at home?
Linking up with Peas & Crayons.
I just bought a bag of shredded carrots! I absolutely agree… they taste far better than full ones. Though I also think this about shredded cheese. Maybe its the smaller pieces that give us more flavor per bite?
There is noooo better feeling than the energy you get after being around inspiring people or doing something you enjoy. Gah its a beautiful feeling!
Haha I have no idea why I like shredded better, but I do! 🙂
That salad looks delish!! I like going out with friends and fam to eat, but I also do love cooking! Even though I’m not the best at it haha 🙂
I do too!! It’s fun going out to eat with friends even though I do really enjoy making something at home!
I’ve heard a good amount about Lean In.
I go out to eat a lot and cooking is not my forte.
I’ve heard good things about Lean In! I need to add it to my list!
You reminded how long it’s been since we’ve had Indian food! That needs to change ASAP!
Yay for doing things fun past your bed time! Naan brad is seriously so good. I would’ve eaten the basket as well. I also really love beans on my salad- white beans are my favorite.
That salad though WOW that looks delicious 🙂
I can’t get into protein powders or smoothies, but I always love how your salads look so amazing! I generally eat in for weekday dinners (or get to order out from work if you’re there past 8pm) but eat out on weekends.
Yum!! We try not to eat out because we usually prefer what we cook at home better! I do have a serious weakness for Chinese food though! There is almost never a time I’d turn down some Chinese takeout! 😉
Eating Indian food always means eating all the naan!!! Ha! We actually rarely go out to eat (saving money, paying down things), but do keep some date night cash stashed away for if we want to grab a drink or some appetizers somewhere.
That salad looks awesome. I need to try out that protein powder too, sounds delicious. We mostly cook at home for dinners, but I do eat lunches out a fair amount.
