Things I’ve Learned From Blogging
I don’t think of myself as a blogger. I’m just a girl with a blog. It’s the same way I feel about running. I’m not a runner… I’m just a girl that runs. It’s different, right? No? Doesn’t matter. Either way, I’ve learned a lot of things in the past year or so.
I learned that:
I don’t need to fear nut butters.
What? No, seriously.
Back in high school I was all “OMG! 200 calories in 2 tablespoons? Nevvvvah.” I’d shun that jar of Jif in my parents pantry. I was a calorie counting maniac.
Then I discovered two things:
1. Nut butter, while high in calories, is actually quite good for you
2. Jif doesn’t even compare to the amazing nut butters on the shelf, or the kind I can make at home.
What you eat is not what I eat, and that’s ok.
I’m easily impressionable. I see someone eating chia seeds and I want to put them on every single thing I eat. Someone stir frys in coconut oil? I must do that. You eat soy yogurt not greek yogurt? Should I be doing that?
Wait stop.
What tastes good to me, might not taste good to you. What my body needs is what what your body needs. I mean, look at all the WIAW posts! We all eat different things, and that’s ok!
Exercise is more than Cardio and 5lb dumbells
I was the classic “45min of the elliptical and a few bicep curls with a light weight.” I didn’t push myself with strength training. I didn’t want muscle, I just wanted to burn off calories. And then I saw girls like Katie and Bonnie kicking butt in the gym. And I thought… I can do that too! I’m no where near as toned as these ladies, but I’m on my way! 😉
AMEN to the nut butter observation! Before I knew anything about nutrition, I just focused on calories. I remember eating frosting one day and telling my mom that it had half the calories of peanut butter, and she said, ‘Yeah, but is it healthier?’ NO! I didn’t know it at the time, but now that I care more about the ingredients than the calorie count, I feel much better about eating peanut butter. It’s my favorite!
Those are two things that I’ve learned from blogging as well! (: you aren’t the only one who used to be a calorie counting controller!
xo.
Such a nice post! I am still sort of new to the blogging world and I feel like I have learned so much already! I love all the recipes and little life tidbits I have been reading.
Great post! Lovely sentiments. 🙂
You said it, girl! I’m 100% guilty of the nut butter thing too (or at least I WAS). I could never imagine myself putting more than a mini serving of nut butter on anything!
Now I practically cover food in the stuff, and I’ve never been happier about it 🙂
Thank you for the sweet comments on my blog. Things always work out 🙂
Great post Liz! You are so inspiring!
I also don’t consider myself a blogger or a runner…I’m just me without titles!
What I’ve learned from blogging? Greek yogurt is pure heaven, inspiration is just a click away and there is an entire community of people out there that I am so proud to be a part of!
I learned that oatmeal doesn’t come out of a paper packet with powdered flavor.
What a great post! I’ve learned that I don’t care enough about pretty food to be a food blogger. I’ve learned that we all have stories to tell, and blogging is a great storytelling venue. I’ve learned that sometimes people are interested in things that I think will be boring…and sometimes things that I think are exciting and insightful won’t interest anyone at all!
Hahaha my food is normally really ugly!! But every once in awhile, I make it pretty so I can snap a picture 😉
Everyone needs to read this post. 🙂 I can definitely relate with being fearful of peanut butter. I used to really beat myself up about it. Now, I’ve learned that the body needs fats and protein just to function and it just so happens that pb has all of that. 🙂 Bring on the pb!
