Things I’ve Learned From Blogging
I don’t think of myself as a blogger. I’m just a girl with a blog. It’s the same way I feel about running. I’m not a runner… I’m just a girl that runs. It’s different, right? No? Doesn’t matter. Either way, I’ve learned a lot of things in the past year or so.
I learned that:
I don’t need to fear nut butters.
What? No, seriously.
Back in high school I was all “OMG! 200 calories in 2 tablespoons? Nevvvvah.” I’d shun that jar of Jif in my parents pantry. I was a calorie counting maniac.
Then I discovered two things:
1. Nut butter, while high in calories, is actually quite good for you
2. Jif doesn’t even compare to the amazing nut butters on the shelf, or the kind I can make at home.
What you eat is not what I eat, and that’s ok.
I’m easily impressionable. I see someone eating chia seeds and I want to put them on every single thing I eat. Someone stir frys in coconut oil? I must do that. You eat soy yogurt not greek yogurt? Should I be doing that?
Wait stop.
What tastes good to me, might not taste good to you. What my body needs is what what your body needs. I mean, look at all the WIAW posts! We all eat different things, and that’s ok!
Exercise is more than Cardio and 5lb dumbells
I was the classic “45min of the elliptical and a few bicep curls with a light weight.” I didn’t push myself with strength training. I didn’t want muscle, I just wanted to burn off calories. And then I saw girls like Katie and Bonnie kicking butt in the gym. And I thought… I can do that too! I’m no where near as toned as these ladies, but I’m on my way! 😉
This post is awesome!
Love all your points here! I’ve learned that it is possible to strike a balance….treats are ok!
Amen to all theses 🙂
Its great you can realize that. I am just now starting to realize that. Suffering from an ED it’s hard to finally make that realization and that’s whats great about the blog roll is it can help assist you in realizing that its not about the calories, its about what your body needs. Do you really like amond milk or do you drink it because it has 40 calories. Do you really like chia seeds in your oatmeal or do you put them in “because their healthy and good for you” Eat what you want and when you want, your body is pretty good at telling you what it needs.
I can definitely relate to the things you have learned! I have also learned that just because I see bloggers running 8+ miles for a workout, it doesn’t mean that kind of exercise is right for my body. I’d love to run that much though!
I feel the same way about being a “runner” and a “blogger.” I just run some, blog some, and do other stuff.
Great post! I totally agree with all you have to say here, and isn’t it funny how Jif is just plain nasty after you have eaten natural nut butters!
I learned that greek yogurt is the best thing in the world. I learned that what other bloggers eat may not be a fave of mine…for instance, I LOVE JIF 😉 And no other nut butter can compare..hehe
Oh yes!!! I probably wouldn’t have tried Greek yogurt if it hadn’t been for the blog world.
That’s so funny that JIF is your favorite! I actually discovered I really like the Skippy Naturals Crunchy kind! That’s what I’ve been buying lately, and it’s way cheaper than some of the “designer” nut butters!
LOVE THIS! We totally do all eat differently and that’s GLORIOUS! <3 and packing right now… baller exercise =) you should come help. get a free workout and some wine! mwah!
A working, wine, AND time with you? sign me up! 😉
I totally agree! It irks me when I see girls lift 5lbs because they don’t want to get bulky! I love lifting and lifting heavy. And pb? yes pleaseeeee 😀
