The [Mandatory] Resolutions Post
I kind of love setting goals.
I don’t reserve resolutions for New Years. I pretty much resolve to do something new about every month. I also think they’re more attainable that way. So instead of reaching for the moon, I’m just going to lay out some goals for January!
January’s Goal: Redefine Healthy Living.
Step one: Make exceptions
I don’t want to let “healthy” get in the way of “living”. I want to relax. The occasional plate of french fries, or milkshake isn’t going to kill me. And eating something other than yogurt or a smoothie in the morning is perfectly fine.
So even though an eggy-cheesey breakfast casserole might not be a “normal” breakfast for me, I’m not going to turn down the delicious (vegetarian) breakfast G-love cooked for me.
Which was this recipe, subbing peppers in place of the bacon. (Yes, he made me my very own dish without meat.)
Step two: Listen to My Cravings
I want to try new things out of my comfort zone. I don’t always need to chose the “healthiest” thing on the menu. I want to start eating things because I want them, not because they’re the “right thing”. A cookie isn’t going to make or break me.
If I want a cookie… I’m having a real cookie (Like this recipe pictured above)… instead of trying to satisfying my craving with not-quite-what-I-wanted foods.
Step three: Take a (Planned) Rest Day
I’m really not good at taking rest days from the gym. And while that sounds ok, it means I often get burned out, and do a half hearted workout, simply because I’m forcing myself to go to the gym. Taking an intentional rest day makes me excited to go back to the gym. Even though I know this, I don’t always do this.
*Old picture of my trip to the bay, but I think it expresses my need for occasional relaxation…*
I have a feeling 2012 is going to be a great year 🙂
i really need to incorporate rest days into my routine…they’re SO improtant! i don’t know why it always leaves me feeling guilty when i try to take one…that’s definitely NOT healthy :/
happy new year, sweet pea!
Love the idea of goals rather than reolutions!! I am going to join you on having rest days something I really need to work on.
I used to have a problem taking rest days, but I think scheduling them in to your week really prevents guilt. Now, I have the opposite problems- I want to take too many of them!- but if you know you have one coming, you don’t have anxiety about skipping a workout.
Umm are we the same person? These three things are on top of my goals/ to do’s/life change musts. 🙂 Im starting right now as I nom on some amazing extra creamy butternut squash soup.
Good luck! & happy new year!
Love your goals 🙂
love this, totally agree with all three things. all important for balance of healthy as well as fun!
I think that your goals are very appropriate to start of a new year with! I will be writing about my resolution/goals in tomorrow’s post. I spent the day today refelcting back on the past year, what I did/did not achieve, and trying to decided what I wanted to do this year……why does a “resolution” take so much thought, lol!
Great goals! It’s important to commit to a healthy lifestyle but you can’t let it get in the way of living your life. Hope you have a wonderful 2012!! 🙂
Great goals! I too struggle with taking a rest day, but I know it’s best and I run so much better. I take Sunday off. Anyways, my goals are 1.read my Bible more. 2. Tithe (spelled wrong?) faithfully. 3. Only drink “pop” (diet mtn dew addict) on weekends 4. Run, run, run like I did in my college xc days and beat this girl that’s beat me 3yr now at my local race(so tired of being second!). 5. Be happy, healthy, and shine for Jesus! 🙂
Those are fantastic goals!!! I love those 🙂 Keep on shining girl 🙂
You’re so right; a few plates of chips/cookies/cakes isn’t going to do anyone any harm; it’s all about the 80/20 rule and everything in moderation! Happy New Year, hope it’s a brilliant one 🙂
