The Ultimate Guide to Probiotic Cocktails
Shake up your cocktail routine by adding some good-for-your-gut probiotics to the mix! Believe it or not, these beneficial beverages can actually take your drink to the next level! From kombucha to drinking vinegar, these recipes will make your tastebuds happy!
What are probiotics?
Let’s start with the basics. What are probiotics? They’re simply live microorganisms that provide health benefits by improving or restoring the gut flora. Probiotics are often found in things like yogurt and fermented foods like kombucha, tempeh, and kimchi. Don’t worry, we won’t put tempeh in your cocktails.
Can you use probiotics in a cocktail?
Yes! The most common way to add probiotics into your cocktail is with kombucha. Kombucha is a fermented tea and it makes a delicious drink mixer! Other probiotic mixers are shrubs and drinking vinegars. These can be a little harder to track down, but keep an eye out for them! You can also use apple cider vinegar as a drink mixer!

My sister swears by Kefir – but I hate yogurt in ALL forms, so I’ve never been able to find a version I like. However, I do love Kombucha and take Culturelle, so hopefully I’m getting my probiotics like I should!
Bring on the the weekend!
Ohh I LOVE Kombucha! I wish it wasn’t so expensive though!
I like kefir—I made it once, and that was weird though.
I believe probiotics are good—but at the same time, when I went to a Food as Medicine conference last June, they described probiotics as similar (but opposite) to antibiotics…. in other words, they can help the bacteria balance while they’re being used, but they have to keep being ingested to get long-term effects — unless the digestive tract can really heal itself by being given a “break” through being supplied with the probs. Phew, that sounds complicated. Anyway, I think they are good, but I don’t go overboard or think they’re a miracle…
Haha I totally agree! I think it can’t be a helpful thing, but it’s not a magical cure-all!
I have had Kefir and I love it. My sister is an RD and she is a big fan of it. My kids really like it so usually I will be 2 containers, a plain and flavored and mix them so it is not too sweet.
Kefir is sooo delicious. I like dim restaurant lighting but that’s just because I like the dark better 🙂
I’ve never had kefir before. The only time I have ever taken probiotics is when I was taking a bunch of antibiotics haha! Trying to balance everything out you know?
Nope, never tried kefir, and dim lighting does not make me sad. Dim lighting makes me feel swanky and posh… things I’m definitely not.
Haha ok true, I guess there are lots of benefits to dim lighting but I hate how pictures never turn out!
I’ve never tried kefir before! Happy Friday 😀
I am a big believer in probiotics. In fact, now that I’ve finished my juice cleanse, I need to add probiotics into my routine again to make sure nothing’s… Messed up.
The only kefir I’ve had is from Trader Joe’s. I like it a lot. Your cocktail sounds great. Going to pin this one and try it later.
Girl I have been SUPER edgy this week. I think it’s in anticipation of the upcoming extended weekend. Or I hope it is- because surely it’s not a personal problem. :p
Hahaha it MUST be the upcoming weekend 😉 I hope yours is fantastic and relaxing!
