Life Lately: Full Disclosure, New Camera Lens, & More
I haven’t given you all a life update in a while so I thought I’d do a recap of some of the things I’ve been up to and what I’m loving lately.
My wonderful friend Alexa came to visit last night and we went to the Inaugural Full Disclosure at the Hipp, an event hosted by Roben Farzad, the host of the NPR One radio show, Full Disclosure. As soon as I saw Young House Love was the guest, I knew I had to go!
The Hippodrome is such a cool venue and some of the proceeds of the event went to CARITAS which is an organization that helps with homelessness and job placement in Richmond. They have such a great mission so I’m glad the event was a success! It was fun to see so many other Virginia Bloggers there! One of the things that really resonated with me was Sherry talking about making money blogging and she said she had to write hundred and hundreds of posts before they even thought about making money from it. It seems like the blogging industry has changed so much over the years and now people expect to start making money right away. It really does take a lot of time and effort to build a blog into something profitable!
Speaking of bloggers, last weekend we did a blogger meet up at Whisk and we had such a good turn out!
If you’re a blogger in Virginia then you should definitely join Virginia Bloggers! It’s a fun way to get to know other bloggers in the area. We chatted for a couple hours about everything from coffee to sponsored posts. Isn’t it wonderful when you find a tribe that just understands? Blogging is a strange hobby and it’s so reassuring to talk with others who have similar challenges and great ideas!
I’ve added a beautiful new lens to my small collection of camera equipment.
My 50mm f/1.8 lens bit the dust a week or so ago and rather than replacing that one, I took it as an opportunity to upgrade! My 50mm f/1.4 lens came this week and I’m so excited. My photography has a long way to go but I’m excited to play around with this new lens!
And while we’re on the subject of expensive investments…
I totally forgot to mention that after Alex and I went piano shopping last month, we actually ended up buying one. (It came while I was at SXSW!) I can’t tell you how much I love it. It’s beautiful, it has an amazing sound, and it has an “anytime” system built in, which means we can silence it and play with headphones. It’s kind of hard to explain but it’s basically amazing. I’m so in love.
This weekend, Alex and I are running the Monument 10K! I haven’t run a race for a couple of years so I’m looking forward to it! Alex will be running it much faster than me, but as long as I can run the whole thing, I’ll be happy!
That event sounds like so much fun! Sherry is absolutely right in that it takes a long time to earn money from blogging. I think some grow faster than others depending on their mind-set going into it. But regardless, it still takes time.
Also, congrats on your new lens and piano! You’re going to love the 1.4. It takes beautiful pictures! Ahh! So many toys, so little time… π
I need to look around for blogger meet-ups around me! Sounds like a good time.
Good luck at your 10K. I know you’ll do great!
I can’t believe it’s already monument 10k time! Good luck girl, you’re going to rock it I’m sure!!! And oh my goodness that piano is gorgeous! Made me think we should definitely be pulling out Ryan’s guitars more often to get some live music in the house. Have a great weekend!

LOVE that you have a 1.4. I have a 1.8 because it’s way cheaper, hehe, but I hope I can upgrade sometime soon! Ahhh I can’t wait to move into our “real” house so I can think about either moving my dad’s piano down, or getting one!!
The 1.8 I had was great for so long! But breaking it seemed like a good excuse to upgrade π haha
I had so much fun finally meeting you and several other Virginia Bloggers last night! Congrats on your new (and gorgeous) piano!!
Karla, it was SO wonderful meeting you in person!! I hope you can come to the next meet up!!
That is gorgeous.
As a runner, I’m always excited to see how my friends do in races. Good luck this weekend. 10k is such a fun distance!
Thanks!! It’s going to be a little chilly but I’m excited to run!
Wow, that’s a beautiful addition to your home – and I guess the piano is cool too π
Wow! Love the new lens and can hardly wait to see your new posts with it. I remember piano lessons, and I am sure my parents would have loved the “anytime” system if it was available back then!
So great seeing you at the Hippodrome last night! Such a fun event. And I can’t wait to hear all about your new lens! I’ve been thinking about getting a 50 mm too so I’m definitely interested in what you think.
Yes!! It was so fun seeing you! If you’re looking for a 50mm, the 1.8 are a great place to start because they’re pretty cheap and SO great, especially for photos like your cocktail posts! The 1.4 was a bit of an investment and I’m excited to play around with it!
Ahhh your new piano is beautiful! So jealous. Mine is way out of tune, so I haven’t played in a while. I love the anytime system idea, though, I’ve never heard of that! I would love that since I have a tendency to play the same songs over and over haha.
I really need to come up to Richmond sometime when you all meet up!
We honestly hadn’t heard of the anytime systems either but apparently they’re popular in crowded cities! It’ll be nice to be able to play even when Alex is watching baseball in the next room π
