House Update: Living Room
I haven’t done very many home-related posts, partly because this is a food blog… and partly because the house isn’t finished yet. But I realized that a project like this will never really be finished and it’ll be fun to have progress pictures in various stages. So here we go! Here’s what things look like right now:
We (finally) got a new sofa which fits a little better than our old couch which was too big for the space. I’m loving the clean lines of this grey sofa. I think it’ll be a pretty versatile piece so if we want to change things up, it can blend in with anything. I also discovered that I’m pretty indecisive when it comes to furniture buying. (How many times can you search “grey sofa” on Pinterest? Answer: 400 times.)
We also got a little reading chair and I love what a cozy space the corner has become. I think Alex was mostly excited about this chair because it was the first time I agreed to buy something that wasn’t a neutral color. (What can I say… I love neutrals.) While hanging up the windowpane, we learned that hanging things on old plaster walls is a challenge. We managed to hang up this windowpane, but this shelf was a no-go.
Aren’t these antique pieces from Alex’s grandmother so pretty? His family gave them to me last summer at my bridal shower and I love having them displayed on the mantle!
We also hung up this clock that Alex refurbished for me while we were dating. Aw. Dating.
To see how the room is laid out, here’s a shot leading into the dining room:
The piano in the corner was given to us by my brother’s church and I’m so thankful to have a real piano again! It needed a bit of work (i.e. the piano tuners basically lived with us for a week) but it has come back to life! I’m enjoying trying to play some of my old favorite songs, even if it’s way harder than it used to be…
We also got a huge dining room table!
I wanted the biggest table possible… so that’s what we got! We could take the leaves out and make it a bit smaller but it’s more fun to be prepared for a party at any moment. It’s been fun having friends and family over for game nights and dinner parties. A full house makes me so happy.
Your house is beautiful! I love posts about hose decorating. Keep them coming 🙂
I love all of these perfect homey details! The big dining room table is so fun, and it’s awesome that you have a piano in there, too. These grandmother items on the mantle are gorgeous – just stunning. It’s very special to have family treasures around the house.
Absolutely beautiful! I love the overall simplicity and the meaning behind the different pieces. 🙂
I love that little corner! So adorable!
Your home is beautiful! It looks like you have plenty of seating for company…nice!
I love it! Your house is really cute. What kind of piano do you like to play? I’m a classical girl!
Love seeing house updates! My piano is patiently waiting in my parents’ house until my husband and I buy our own place. Can’t wait to have it again!
That’s awesome to know it is there for when you can take it!!
Love everything-especially the wall colors. We have old plaster walls too and they are the WORST!
They’re so shallow! The anchor we tried to install for the shelf only went in about halfway!
Your dining room table is fabulous! I’d love to have something that large for entertaining!!
I like your homer related posts. We are in the process of doing a lot of home updates and upgrades (mostly waiting until after the wedding). I always like getting ideas from others and your house is so simple and so modern.
