House Update: Living Room
I haven’t done very many home-related posts, partly because this is a food blog… and partly because the house isn’t finished yet. But I realized that a project like this will never really be finished and it’ll be fun to have progress pictures in various stages. So here we go! Here’s what things look like right now:
We (finally) got a new sofa which fits a little better than our old couch which was too big for the space. I’m loving the clean lines of this grey sofa. I think it’ll be a pretty versatile piece so if we want to change things up, it can blend in with anything. I also discovered that I’m pretty indecisive when it comes to furniture buying. (How many times can you search “grey sofa” on Pinterest? Answer: 400 times.)
We also got a little reading chair and I love what a cozy space the corner has become. I think Alex was mostly excited about this chair because it was the first time I agreed to buy something that wasn’t a neutral color. (What can I say… I love neutrals.) While hanging up the windowpane, we learned that hanging things on old plaster walls is a challenge. We managed to hang up this windowpane, but this shelf was a no-go.
Aren’t these antique pieces from Alex’s grandmother so pretty? His family gave them to me last summer at my bridal shower and I love having them displayed on the mantle!
We also hung up this clock that Alex refurbished for me while we were dating. Aw. Dating.
To see how the room is laid out, here’s a shot leading into the dining room:
The piano in the corner was given to us by my brother’s church and I’m so thankful to have a real piano again! It needed a bit of work (i.e. the piano tuners basically lived with us for a week) but it has come back to life! I’m enjoying trying to play some of my old favorite songs, even if it’s way harder than it used to be…
We also got a huge dining room table!
I wanted the biggest table possible… so that’s what we got! We could take the leaves out and make it a bit smaller but it’s more fun to be prepared for a party at any moment. It’s been fun having friends and family over for game nights and dinner parties. A full house makes me so happy.
I really enjoy the little reading corner. I am loving the patterns on that chair. I can’t believe how long that dining table is. What a great space! The vintage pieces are so cute and fit nicely. Thank you for sharing.
You’ve been inspiring me, Dagmara!
Your house looks great! It certainly takes a lot of time to put together, and it’s a good thing to take one’s time. I absolutely LOVE those antique pieces! I wish I could ask you where I can buy them!
I love the layout of the kitchen and dining room – so perfect for having people over!
Your living room looks so charming Liz! I’d love to just hang there, it’s so cozy, warm, and inviting 🙂 Can’t wait to see how it’ll look once you’re done. 🙂 My favorite thing in my home is the wooden TV easel that beautifully displays our TV. 🙂 Have a great weekend Liz! -Iva
Talk about an absolutely amazing catalog-esque house – I mean it. You’ve got it all there: the piano, a reading chair (this really gives it that ‘together forever’ feel – so sweet!), heirloom pieces and those telling the tale of the relationship between you and Alex. All in all clean yet personal and so very welcoming. I wouldn’t mind being your guest 🙂 .
You are so sweet!! I wish you lived closer so you could come by in person 🙂
Wow! This is so beautiful!! …what a lovely house! 🙂 Very pretty!!
I love the dining room/kitchen stools shot! It looks so welcoming and perfect for throwing a dinner party at a moment’s notice 🙂
I’d love to have a reading nook with a colorful chair like that! Reading posts like this is inspiring because I haven’t put as much work into my no-longer-new apartment as I dreamed about doing when we moved in. Love the super long dining table and piano- automatic entertainment if you know a piano player! It’s so nice to hear piano music 🙂
It is! I really need to refresh my piano playing skills because it would be so fun to play for parties and things!
Love how clean and fresh everything looks! The sofa is great and I love the reading corner!
Loving the large dining room table with the open bar seating! This is the perfect space to host a party 🙂 The house looks really good! You have great taste.
Thanks so much, Diane! If you guys lived closer, I’d have you and baby Charlotte over for a visit! 🙂
