What I Ate Saturday
The past few weeks have been pretty busy so I was kind of excited about a weekend with very little on the schedule. I started Saturday off with a pink lady apple and some almond butter on the side.
I’m obsessed with the Almond Butter from Trader Joe’s. It’s so great for dipping. I also had a cup of coffee and a glass of water, trying to hydrate before my workout!
I met up with some friends at the park for a BBG style workout. If you’ve heard of Kayla Itsines and her Bikini Body Guides then you know it was a killer workout! At first it was a little chilly but once we started jumping around, I warmed up fast! We did the workout in the photo above 4 times though. (2 of the first circuit, 2 of the second circuit, and then repeated all of that.) There were so many jump squats, I almost died. But then I didn’t and I felt amazing!
Once I got home, I grabbed a tangerine and mini avocado muffin. I’m loving the tangerines (again, from Trader Joe’s) but the amount of seeds in there drive me crazy. Next time, I’m going for the clementines!
For lunch, I made a black bean burger and ate it with a side salad. Sorry for the ugly photo.
Alex and I spent the afternoon painting half of the basement. It’s a totally unglamourous project and I learned that waterproofing paint does not come off your skin easily. I definitely still had some on my leg when I went to work on Monday. No amount of scrubbing could get it off! Luckily, we were able to get two coats of paint on the wall and the ceiling, so I’m glad to have that done!
We finished up around 4 and we were both in need of a snack.
We split some cheese and crackers. I was so excited to get this Spanish cheese sample pack from Trader Joe’s (are you sensing a theme here with the TJ’s?) but I was kind of bummed that they all sort of tasted the same. It wasn’t really the variety I was hoping for.
Later on, headed out to Libbie & Grove to grab dinner. We hadn’t been to the Continental Westhampton for long time so it was fun to go back there!
Their menu is super vegetarian-friendly so we had a hard time deciding. In the end I went with the zucchini falafel wrap and traded some of my french fries for a few bites of Alex’s eggplant parmesan. Both were delicious and we’ll definitely be going back here soon! It’s rare that we have more than a handful of vegetarian options so it was fun to actually have a choice to make!
After we got home, we watched a documentary on Netflix and I had a few pieces of dark chocolate. Not a bad way to end the week!
What’s your favorite thing from Trader Joe’s? (Or if you don’t have a TJ’s your favorite recent grocery store purchase!)
Linking up with What I Ate Wednesday!
You are making me wish I had a Trader Joe’s here in Memphis!
I love that you and your friends met up for an outdoor workout! That sounds like a fun way to get in some fitness.
And that wrap looks amazing! I need to come visit VA and check out your amazing food scene!
Yes! A workout in the park was so nice! And the wrap was amazing! Richmond definitely had great food options!
So we don’t have TJ’s nearby, but we got quite a load of food from them when we were road-tripping last year in October. My favorite thing by far was the COOKIE butter! I still want to try to make some.
The cookie butter is SO good! I can buy it or I’ll eat the whole thing in a day 😉
Trader Joe’s is my all time favorite store! I love their fresh pesto, pre made salads, cilantro and jalapeno hummus…really everything! You have to try their cashew butter too- it’s to die for,
Ohhh I haven’t tried the fresh pesto! I’m adding that to my list! And I haven’t had the cashew butter in a long time so I’ll have to see if they have it!
We got three TJ’s locations in CO a few years ago and… I just don’t get it. I know, I know (hangs head in shame), but whenever people try to explain the fascination to me they just give me a list of all the packaged food they like to buy from there and I don’t really buy those kinds of things I guess? That zucchini falafel wrap, though? I TOTALLY get that! Looks incredibly delicious 🙂
Haha yeah I don’t usually buy a lot of packaged food EXCEPT at trader joes! But they definitely have some unique products and their nut butters are amazing! Plus things like almond flour and coconut oil are so much cheaper than other stores!
Jump squats are killer for the booty and the quads. Somehow I always end up doing them the day after leg day during my HIIT class, and my lower body is not happy with me. But the burn feels so good! Ok so not during the workout, but after 😉
Haha jump squats kill me! I need to keep doing them though!!
180 jump squats? You go girl! That’s the way to get a nice booty 🙂 Hehe!
Favorite at TJ’s is the dark chocolate peanut butter cups, the mini goat cheeses perfect for packing lunch salads, and the deals on things like eggs and produce!
I think my favorite thing from Trader Joes are the all natural peppermint patties! They have just three ingredients, so nothing artificial and no sugars (minus the honey). I don’t buy them much because I will literally eat the entire bag within a few days, but they are so good!
Love the TJs theme. I am also obsessed. My new favorite thing is their scallion pancakes in the freezer section by the Asian dishes. So good!
Ohhh I haven’t tried that from TJs but there is a restaurant here that makes them and they’re so yummy!
