What I Ate [on a Budget] Wednesday
Life has been kind of crazy lately, but when isn’t it kind of crazy?
I’ve been running from one thing to the next, including a cooking demo @ Whole Foods with Brittany and Stephanie. SO fun and I’m glad I finally got to join them for one of the classes! We learned how to make all kinds of stuff, so I’ll have to share some of that inspiration soon.
But sometimes when life gets crazy, my budget kind of goes out the window. And even though I’m quite cheap thrifty about most things, I tend to splurge on food products. In an effort to get my spending under control, I’ve made a point of packing my lunches, and I’ve opted for smoothies in the morning (rather than my beloved Greek yogurt + pricey berries).
So here’s a budget friendly day of eating, just in time for the party!
Breakfast:
Banana + soymilk + stevia + Spreadable Peanut Butter Cup Filling and topped with Homemade Granola
Total cost? About $1
Lunch:
Lean Cuisine- On sale, for $2
I actually wasn’t a big fan of this one. I’d give it like… 2 1/2 stars (out of 5). It was really creamy and cheesy, which sounds good, but I’m actually not very in love with cheese. Weird, I know. However, it did a good job of keeping me fairly full until dinner my afternoon snack.
Afternoon Snack
Knock-off Fiber One bars from Target- On sale 2 for $4 (for a box of 6)
Yep. Nothing wrong with generic, in my opinion! If I don’t have an afternoon snack I get grumpy, tired, cranky, and I STARVING by the time I get home. No lie. It ain’t pretty.
Dinner
1/2 burger night at Home Team Grill! Which meant this whole plate of food was only like $5. (Technically free for me, since G-love bought me dinner, 😉 haha) If you live in Richmond, check it out! It was my first time ordering food at Home Team. I’ll give them points for options. You could get any of the burgers made as a veggie burger, so I got the “Medeterianian” burger. Feta cheese + spinach + red onion + cucumber sauce. I actually ended up scraping off the sauce and the feta, because it just didn’t taste right with the veggie burger. It probably would have been better with guacamole… but oh well.
Night Time Snack
Soy Crisps- $2 per bag
I almost always have a snack before bed. Just being honest. So I munched on a few of these babies before going to bed. Yummm.
I’m working on eating on a budget too – since going GF, it’s pretty much flown out the window! I was doing better until today and I’m realizing that I need to work on planning first, so I can make sure I don’t have to make a ton of grocery shopping trips!
I have LOTS of snacks (oatmeal with PB, cereal etc) before bed, I usually total 1000+ calories after dinner so I wake up ready for a long AM workout.
I don’t usually eat after dinner, but when I do get the midnight munchies I usually reach for a bowl of cereal, toast, or chips and salsa or something. I love special burger nights! The place around the corner has a $3 burger night and it is awesome.
Food is one thing I have a hard time not splurging on. I don’t go out to eat too much but I will buy lots of things like organic flour and fruits and veggies that are not in season.
My after dinner snack is popcorn. I love Jolly-time 94% fat free kettle corn. I also like to have one or two of Mama Peas dough balls. MMM, soo good.
I mean, I figure most people my age spend a lot of money on alcohol. Since I don’t spend much on that, I think it evens out 😉
I have to eat something sweet after dinner. Usually it’s been cottage cheese with maple syrup and granola- yum!
sometimes we have snacks after our dinner, it really all depends on how big dinner was and what time we ate dinner 😉
Haha I usually have smaller dinners on purpose, just so I have an excuse for a night time snack 😉
those soy crisps… one of my all time favorite snacks. i have been known to polish off a bag over the course of a 3 hour road trip. love the saltiness!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who can polish off a bag that fast! haha they don’t last long around me!
delish!! Happy WIAW 🙂

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you enjoy it 🙂
I def am always trying to eat the best i can on budget prices, it’s like a weird challenge or something haha <— only a CPA right? Anywho, didn't know HTG did 1/2 price burger nights either. I've only been for beerz before but good to know their food is decent as well. I always have a snack after dinner. Usually something crunchy (yea I don't know why?) like tortilla chips w/ salsa or a few crackers or something!
