What I Ate [on a Budget] Wednesday
Life has been kind of crazy lately, but when isn’t it kind of crazy?
I’ve been running from one thing to the next, including a cooking demo @ Whole Foods with Brittany and Stephanie. SO fun and I’m glad I finally got to join them for one of the classes! We learned how to make all kinds of stuff, so I’ll have to share some of that inspiration soon.
But sometimes when life gets crazy, my budget kind of goes out the window. And even though I’m quite cheap thrifty about most things, I tend to splurge on food products. In an effort to get my spending under control, I’ve made a point of packing my lunches, and I’ve opted for smoothies in the morning (rather than my beloved Greek yogurt + pricey berries).
So here’s a budget friendly day of eating, just in time for the party!
Breakfast:
Banana + soymilk + stevia + Spreadable Peanut Butter Cup Filling and topped with Homemade Granola
Total cost? About $1
Lunch:
Lean Cuisine- On sale, for $2
I actually wasn’t a big fan of this one. I’d give it like… 2 1/2 stars (out of 5). It was really creamy and cheesy, which sounds good, but I’m actually not very in love with cheese. Weird, I know. However, it did a good job of keeping me fairly full until dinner my afternoon snack.
Afternoon Snack
Knock-off Fiber One bars from Target- On sale 2 for $4 (for a box of 6)
Yep. Nothing wrong with generic, in my opinion! If I don’t have an afternoon snack I get grumpy, tired, cranky, and I STARVING by the time I get home. No lie. It ain’t pretty.
Dinner
1/2 burger night at Home Team Grill! Which meant this whole plate of food was only like $5. (Technically free for me, since G-love bought me dinner, 😉 haha) If you live in Richmond, check it out! It was my first time ordering food at Home Team. I’ll give them points for options. You could get any of the burgers made as a veggie burger, so I got the “Medeterianian” burger. Feta cheese + spinach + red onion + cucumber sauce. I actually ended up scraping off the sauce and the feta, because it just didn’t taste right with the veggie burger. It probably would have been better with guacamole… but oh well.
Night Time Snack
Soy Crisps- $2 per bag
I almost always have a snack before bed. Just being honest. So I munched on a few of these babies before going to bed. Yummm.
Im a huge snacker, and after dinner I typically want some sweetness. In the summer my go to is fruit or homemade popscicles, but right now its been jello or a few scoops of DCD 🙂
Haha Dark Chocolate Dreams frequently makes appearances in my snacking 😉
ok by the way i love you because you eat lean cuisines…and post about them. i have told you this before – i promise i am not that creepy.
and – considering i am a lean cuisine fanatic (although i’m trying to cut back on them….a little) – this my dear is one of my favorites! the creamy cheesy goodness! how could you not love it?
Hahaha I know sometimes I’m like “ohh man, I shouldn’t post frozen dinners on my blog” but like, it IS what I eat, and I’m doing fine 😉
I think I like most of the pasta ones better. I’m just not a sour cream fan, and I think that was the main taste in this one. If you like creamy cheesy goodness, I can see why you’d like this one!!
I remember I tried Target’s Fiber One bars and I didn’t like them as much–I didn’t think they were as “gooey.” It was a few years ago, so maybe they’ve improved them since then. I don’t have a snack after dinner; I basically have two dinners. I will often eat at 6pm then again at 9pm (though my portions aren’t huge).
These might actually be more of a knock off of the Kelloggs Fiber Plus bars. I can’t remember… but they taste exactly like whichever name brand I was buying, haha. I think they HAVE improved because I remember trying some other generics awhile back and I wasn’t impressed 🙁
you can eat some good food on a budget if you just put in a little effort! i wish more ppl realized!
There is a lot of “market pantry” in my pantry. I think it tastes just as good as whatever product it’s trying to copy… 🙂
I definitely have a snack after dinner. I usually finish dinner pretty early, so I don’t think I would make it through the night if I didn’t! Usually something high in protein at night keeps me satisfied!
great post, I do try and budget where I can with food. I always have a snack before bed. sometimes it will be porridge especially if I am running in the morning or yogurt and banana, or rice pudding. i try to vary it up.
Dang I’m jealous of your frugalness! Everything looks so tasty too! 🙂
My snack after dinner usually consist of yogurt or nut butter mmm
Haha I definitely have my days where I DON’T stick to my budget! This just happened to be a good day 😉
I do tend to have a small snack after dinner – maybe applesauce (warmed and topped with extra cinnamon and raisins), a hand full of cereal, or a spoon full of pb!
Budget or not, it looks delicious. I know all about that budget thing!
