What I Ate [From a Package] Wednesday
Yesterday was full of packaged food.
Calm down.
While I do agree that an abundance of processed/packaged/preservative-ridden food isn’t exactly idea, I’m willing to make exceptions. I think there is some good stuff out there! So here we go.
A What I Ate Wednesday Exclusive. I’ve also included links to all of the nutritional info on the store-bought stuff, if you’re into that sort of thing…
Breakfast:
A lovely bowl of my new-favorite-cereal: Fiber One Honey Clusters.
Morning Snack:
New Special K Peanut Butter and Chocolate Granola Bar, with some Diet Lipton Green Tea.
YUM. I used to drink tons of this tea in high school, and I’d forgotten about it for awhile. My love for it has returned. And hey, it’s cheaper than Kombucha!
Fun fact: I used to eat literally 3 servings of Special K with Strawberries in the morning, but I picked out all of the freeze dried berries because they’re nasty on their own, and I didn’t put milk in my cereal. So there you go.
Does anyone else find a morning snack necessary to function?
Lunch:
Pacific Foods Vegetable and Lentil Soup
Tasty!!!! Oh my gosh this soup was so good. The box is supposedly 2 servings, but come on. It’s lunch for one. Who divides this boxes into two meals?
Click here for nutritional info and remember to double the counts if you eat the whole box.
Afternoon Snack:
I’m usually starving when I get home from work. But all the fiber in that soup kept me pretty content until I got home. Of course, I still needed something when I got home. So I decided to have an apple + peanut butter. (At least these weren’t packaged!)
Dinner:
Yep, this was a package too. (What? Stop looking at me like that.)
Tortellini topped with some olive oil, parmesan cheese, salt and red pepper flakes. It was so simple, and I really liked it. Galen didn’t like it, but I think it’s because he mixed it with that Philadelphia cream cheese sauce stuff. Bleh.
I also had a simple salad (which actually didn’t come from a bag. So be proud of me.)
My resolutions post from Monday was rather broad, and while those are still my main resolutions, I thought of a few others:
- Pack my lunch at least 3 days a week. (I can still get a simple side salad from work for under a buck, so I’ll probably keep doing that! Simple way to get in my veggies!)
- Spend less $$$ on food in general. I’d say spend less at the grocery store, but that means I’d end up buying my lunch at work more often… so I’m just going to say spend less on food in general
- Finish things 100%. I’m super guilty of doing everything almost all the way. So my room is sort of clean. My closet is basically organized. My to-do list is almost complete. I want to really get things done this year!
One last thing… if you live in Richmond, I’m working on a RVA Restaurant Review Page! It’s now posted in one of the tabs up at the top. Most of the posts aren’t true “restaurant review” posts (just posts where the meal was in the post), but I’ll try to add more in the future!
What’s your favorite packaged food?
Great idea on the RVA restaurant page! I’m making it a goal this year to get out and try more of the fantastic places that there are around town since I’ve spent the past few years doing so much cooking of my own. And agreed, sometimes packaged food just has to do the trick in a pinch and at least there are a few good options out there for days/nights where we’re in a hurry! I’ll have to give that soup a try, haven’t had it before.
I agree, just because it’s premade doesn’t necessarily make it bad and home-made isn’t necessarily healthy; this lot looks great!
I’m the same; never have milk with cereal and always picked out the nasty freze-dried berries 🙂
I love Amy’s frozen meals – but I’ve just discovered serving-size cottage cheeses, and I’m kind of addicted to them too!
that soup sounds awesome!! will have to grab a few boxes 🙂
happy new year!
Peanut butter!!!! Sorry, I just saw that and completely forgot about everything else 🙂
My favorite HEALTHY packaged food would have to be bread or kashi cereal. Favorite NONHEALTHY packaged food… Blueberry Muffin Mix! So good that I’d eat the whole bowl with a spoon.
Ahhh I was on a kick a few months ago with the Lipton iced green tea, but if I remember right, I stopped because the sugar content was a little high and I’ve still got 10 lbs to lose. Now I just brew a big batch of plain green tea, throw it in the fridge, and take it in a bottle with me. Cheaper, too!
Oh, and your peanut butter looks fantastic. So chunky! (Which I consider a good thing, as long as we’re talking about PB!)
Haha I know I could drink it all day! I drink the diet kind but I’m sure all those fake sugars aren’t so good for me either! I’ve switched to just warm water and lemon at night!
Honestly, I don’t think there is anything “wrong” with packaged foods. I don’t believe in “bad” or “good” foods, I just think there needs to be a balance…and it’s something i struggle with every day!!!
How is that peanut butter so darn creamy?! PB and apples are always good!
Kudos to you for posting this. I think that so often people get in the mindset of eating natural foods that they foget about packages foods that are pretty good as well. Sometimes you just need the convenience of a package, and let’s be honest every has them in their homes. I hate that they get such a bad rep.
I totally agree that some packaged food is really good, and sometimes you just need to eat it. I looooove that fiber one cereal. So good. You did get that apple in there though, which isn’t packaged! That looks like the smallest portion of pasta ever! How did you survive off eating that little?!?!
