Tone It Up Meals: Week 4
I’m nearly halfway through the latest Tone It Up challenge! I’ve been focused more on completing all the workouts than I have about eating “clean” 100% of the time. It’s a lifestyle, not a “diet” and I know I’d be pretty unhappy if I had to give up all the things I love! So I thought I’d show you what my meals have looked like recently. I’ve been trying to keep them “lean, clean, and green” but I’ve also been trying to listen for what my body has been craving. This is what it’s been lately:
Some days I’ve been eating smoothie bowls, some days it’s yogurt bowls, but yesterday it was cereal! I’ve been enjoying the Special K Protein cereal, which is one of the few cereals that can actually keep me full until lunch! I’m one of those people that could eat an entire box of cereal in one sitting so I’ve been trying to keep an eye on my portions. (Realistically though, I have at least two servings in the morning!) I’m also a total weirdo and I eat my cereal dry. Does anyone else do that?
I bought some blackberries on Sunday and I was kind of bummed that one pack of them had already gone bad by Monday night. I didn’t want to waste anymore so I packed the remainder for a snack yesterday. They were so sweet and delicious!
I’ve been enjoying massive salads for lunch. I rave about our work salad bar all the time but seriously it’s so good. I’m lucky that I don’t really have to worry about packing a lunch since we have so many healthy options at my office! Look at those watermelon radishes!
I don’t always eat candy in the afternoon but on Tuesdays, it’s Candy Cart day! They bring a cart around the floor and you can grab a little cup of your favorite candy. I went with some gummy bears!
After work, my coworkers and I had a little happy hour at the Quirk Hotel, so I enjoyed a little champagne as well! I forgot to take any real photos but if you follow me on Snapchat (Username: HeartVegetables) then you might have seen my snap from the rooftop!
I got home a little late and Alex had already eaten so I decided to just make myself something quick and easy. I’ve been loving Banza chickpea noodles lately. As someone who is a total carboholic and loves all things pasta, these chickpea noodles have been a new favorite. They taste like pasta but they have way more protein and fiber so I’m actually full after I eat a plate of noodles!
Since I knew I wouldn’t be home until late, I walked for an hour on one of the treadmill desks at work, which mean I had no trouble getting my 10,000 steps! Then once I got home I did the latest Tone It Up workout before I relaxed on the couch and played Nintendo with Alex.
For posts on some of my previous Tone It Up Meals, here’s the recap of my first experience with Tone It Up when my friend Kate and I did the 7 Day Slim Down together:
That bowl of salad looks absolutely delicious!
oh the candy cart day sounds like trouble!! Looks like you are doing well. I love the big salads for lunch too
Ok, dry cereal??? No thanks – I need milk, or at the very least, it needs to be on a smoothie bowl! I too hate it when berries go bad in less than 24 hours. I’ve gotten good at freezing any extra fruit that I don’t eat right away, because usually the on-sale fruit is close to going bad when I buy it. Anddddd I’ve been enjoying my strawberry banana beet juice protein smoothies every morning for nearly two weeks now! We ate the last of the leftovers of my vegan tamale pie last night for dinner, so tonight I have to cook again!
1. I EAT DRY CEREAL! ahh how have we never known this?!
2. I like the way you are approaching the challenge this year. Basically, I’m doing the same thing even though I didn’t fully intend to because I have SO many trip this month that it’s just more realistic for me to go with my lifestyle choices than be super duper strict.
Oooh how it must be hard to resist a weekly candy cart! That is such a fun treat! I have been wanting to try the banza chickpea noodles!
A salad bar and a candy cart?! I want to work at your office!!
Portion control with cereal is impossible, lol. And uh that candy cart would get me every time. I love gummy candies!
Candy cart days sounds awesome. It’s all about balance. Thanks for sharing 🙂
I’ll have to check out those noodles! I tried the black bean ones from TJs and they made my stomach hurt. So jealous of your work salad bar. We have the dining halls here at work, but it’s like $11 to get in for lunch.
Ooh candy cart day sounds fun! 🙂 Do they have chocolate candies? 🙂 I”m always a sucker for any chocolate candies. And those blackberries sound good! I think, because Colorado is far from a good place that grows blackberries, the blackberries we get are often still somewhat sour. But they’re still really yummy! 🙂
