Things I’ve Learned as a Food Blogger… Part 1
I’ve now been blogging for… almost a year (although I haven’t been at this blog that long) and I’ve learned a LOT along the way. It’s funny, because I wouldn’t call myself a “food blogger” but I have a blog about… food… so. Ok, moving on.
#1. If at first you don’t like it, try, try again.
The first time I tasted Kombucha, I thought it was the grossest thing to ever. Now, I’m wishing my addiction didn’t gost $3.59 a bottle…
#2. Agar flakes are not the same as Guar gum. Sure, they both start with strange four letter words, and yes they’re both found in health food stores, but don’t get these things confused. Guar gum will add a creamy thickness to your smoothies. Agar flakes just add this weird chewiness… that is quite unpleasant.

Not the same thing. And on that note, if anyone has any idea what to do with Agar flakes… let me know…
#3. It can take a whole lot of failures, but the end success is totally worth it
Not my finest moment… but a second attempt at the recipe turned out much better…
#4. Never underestimate the power of a light box
The “fail” above was taken without a light box. The “success” shots of those little cupcake things, was in a light box. Prettier, no?
If you’re a blogger, what are some things you’ve learned along the way? And if you’re just a blog-reader, what’s something you’ve learned from reading blogs?

I have learned that people actually like the random shit that comes out of my life. I have also learned that it is not impossible for people to like me, as it seemed to be for a while. I guess it takes certain people to appreciate the sarcasm, cynicism, and honesty that I spew.
I wish I had your balls to try eating different things. I am so jealous of foody people.

I have learned the same as you, but also that natural light is your best friend, lots of people will think you are weird because you photograph everything, and that great friendships develop over photos and recipes 🙂
Katie @ ChocolateCovered Katie made some pudding with agar agar flakes. 🙂

Here’s a couple. 🙂
I was just about to point her there, good on ya Katie! 😉
I think I’ve learned little “tricks” to baking/cooking. I don’t think I even realize it’s something I’ve picked up until after I’m done!
Oh I love the idea of a lightbox. I usually have very little light for taking my food photos, and often have to resort to taking photos in my bathroom! haha. Hoping that’ll change as the days get longer!
I have learned about so many delicious foods that I would have never heard of otherwise! Still haven’t tried kombucha. I’m scared!
From reading, I learned all sorts of awesome things about vegan cuisine, and funky ingredients like nooch and cacao.
As a blogger, I’ve learned just how friendly, crazy, and awesome a lot of people are.
Oh, agar works better as a gelatin. Dissolve it in hot water and it gels up. Pimp My Protein Shake has a good recipe for it, as does Chocolate Covered Katie.
AHAHAHAH i can relate 100% to these.. you NAILEd it!! i definitely learned that you can put spinach in smoothies, eat nutritional yeast, and that its HARD to balance blogging with other stuff cuz blogging is so much more fun!
Ive never tried kombucha, although I do want to. Ive heard it tastes like beer though, and I HATE the taste of beer lol Ive learned to never underestimate the power of one ingredient. Adding almond butter to my oats has completely changed my life!
Oh my gosh, I hate beer too!!! It does SORT of have the carbonated/fermented taste of beer, but trust me, it’s WAY better than beer!
I also gagged at my first sip of kombucha, only to try it again several years later and wonder how I could have hated it. Hrm…what have I learned? I have learned that the number one requirement for the next place we live will be natural light! There is absolutely nowhere in our place that has even decent lighting for blog photos.
There isn’t any natural light in my apartment either! (I literally have ONE window in my whole apartment, how sad is that?!) So the light box has been a life saver!
