Socca Deliciousness
I finally tried socca! After seeing it all over pinterest, I’d been dying to try this magical bread-like recipe! I originally purchased garbanzo bean flour was for mocha muffins but this flour is amazing stuff and should not be limited to muffins (even though they are ridiculously delicious muffins). Socca seemed like the perfect recipe to try!
Socca is like a blank canvas. There are SO many things you can do with it! So I started brainstorming. What did I want this lovely dinner to look like? I decided I needed to add some extra protein, so I thought I’d try a BBQ Tempeh Socca Pizza.
BBQ Socca Tempeh Pizza
Crust
- 1 cup garbanzo bean flour
- 1 cup water
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
Toppings
- 1/2 cup tempeh (crumbled)
- 1/4 cup BBQ Sauce (I used Annie’s)
- 1/2 cup bell pepper strips
- 1/4 cup marinara sauce
- 1 tbsp nutritional yeast
Let’s start with the crust. Mmk? Heat up a skillet, over medium heat, sprayed with some olive oil. While that’s heating up, mix up those ingredients, and
pour it into your heated skillet…
Keep in mind, this is a 14″ skillet… so it’s a little hard to flip (unless you’re an expert flipper, which I am not…) so once it was cooked on the bottom, and set on the top, I just stuck a cookie sheet over the pan, and flipped it over that way.
In a separate skillet, crumble up your tempeh, and cook it in some bbq sauce.
Now add your toppings to the socca! I used TJ’s marinara sauce, bell pepper strips, and my tempeh.
Cook it for about 12 minutes at 350 degrees.
Then take it out of the oven, and marvel at the delicious healthy pizza before you. This stuff is filling! I had one slice and I was stuffed! Honestly, I think the bbq sauce was a little overpowering for me, so I’d recommend going easy on the bbq sauce, or leaving out the marinara.
I can’t wait to try out more socca recipes!
Have you tried socca yet? Have you played around with garbanzo bean flour? (Or am I the only one strange enough to enjoy playing with flour? 😉 )
Happy Monday!

OH MY GOODNESS YUM i love everything BBQ flavored!!! i love socca! i tried it once.. its about time i have it again!
Uh… this looks incredible!!! What a brilliant idea for the topping. Looks just like a meaty dish! I love socca. 🙂
Awe nuts, now am I the last person to try socca? 😛
& That food looks really really good!
I have chickpea flour I just don’t know what to do with it. I tried making carrot muffins with it and they turned out horrible. I think it might of been because my cinnamon was nasty tasting for some reason though, Hmmm.

Haha it IS a little tricky to work with. (It’s definitely not the perfect swap for things like whole wheat flour.) I worked some of it into my whole wheat crackers that I posted a few days ago. You might want to try that!
I need to make some socca….asap 🙂 this looks so awesome! I was going to buy garbanzo bean flour yesterday but decided on coconut flour instead. Next week though!
Ohh I’ve been wanting to try coconut flour! (But it was more expensive than the garbanzo bean flour, haha) I’ll be checking out your blog for coconut flour recipes, and then I’ll HAVE to buy some
I love playing with flours, but I still haven’t been able to hop on this bandwagon!! I’m hoping much sooner though! 🙂
Socca pizza is so filling! My first one was made with a combo of chickpea and buckwheat flour with a tomato sauce and creamy spinach cashew sauce. It was the best pizza i’ve had and so filling! I plan to make another this week.
I know! Normally I can eat like 4 slices of pizza 😉 haha but with this stuff, I had one and was done!
I have never even heard of it, but I like the idea.
And BBQ anything is a WIN!
The bbq was an awesome flavor, I think next time I’d omit the marinara so it stands out more!
Your pizza looks amazing!!! 14 in skillet, I am impressed, I could never flip that, haha
Thank you so much for the shout out!! Glad you enjoyed socca as much as we do!
I havent tried it yet but I have been seeing it everywhere!! I seriously need to go out and get some already
You totally do! It’s not too expensive and it’s loaded with protein and fiber!
Same…I see it all the time at Whole Foods but have yet to buckle down and get a bag!
