5 Day Challenge- Day 1 Recap
In case you missed the background, check out the 5 Day Challenge post here.
I’ve got $2 to spend on food each day… which means $10 for the week. So I did some grocery shopping… definitely the most budget-friendly grocery trip I’ve ever taken!
Almond milk for the week! Good thing it was on sale 🙂
Bananas were only $.51 cents/lb! I got about 6 of them for a little over $1.
Dried beans are so much cheaper than beans in a can!
I also got a bag of brown rice that I forgot to take a picture of. Oops.
All of this totaled up to…
I also bought a jar of peanut butter from a different store for ~$2.00. Gotta get in some healthy fats 🙂
Total: $9.14
Honestly, I’ve never thought so much about $10 in my life! I’ll post a breakdown of my eats tomorrow, (on What I Ate Wednesday, of course) but since pretty much every day will look the same… I think one day is all you’ll need!
Overall, it was an interesting day, because instead of constantly dreaming about what I was going to eat next, I actually thought about the kids, parents, and families that don’t have the pleasure of enjoying food when they need it. Much less just when they’re feeling “snacky.”
What would you miss most if you could only spend $2 per day on food?

That is an awesome challenge! really makes you think about how much you can spend and puts a real perspective on things.

I can’t wait to hear more about this challenge!!!
Wow! I am sitting here thinking about what I would miss the most and I have so many things going through my mind. This challenge really makes a person think and put things in perspective!
I’m fascinated by this challenge! GO LIZ!!!!!! <3 I'm going to need to make some foodie goals soon b/c I've been so bad at fresh market lately. ahhh so so bad. I havent even eaten half of it and some of the trash I bought wasn't even good. Gotta start only buying what I NEED!
thanks for the inspiration =)
I’d miss almond butter! It is so expensive and would cost over half of your weekly $10 just for a jar yikes!
I’d miss my my obsession of peanut butter! 🙂 It’s not cheap. Oh and def couldn’t eat ice cream anymore.:(
A jar of pb for $2? Omg I wish!! I need to shop where you shop 🙂
It’s not “the good stuff” that I normally buy!!! haha
I’d miss produce the most I think–this really makes you realize the cost of things beyond just what is on sale this week! I always have a number in my head for about what things cost but I never thought to compare that to $2.00 a day. Good luck!
wow that is awesome! what a cool challenge–very inspiring 😀 thanks for the sweet comment! your blog is adorable–so fun and encouraging
wow I’m pretty impressed! i eat a lot of beans and rice and I know that is a cheap and healthy meal, but it would be tough to only spend $2 everyday!
