Description

This delicious tomato sauce is made with canned San Marzano tomatoes for a simple, yet flavorful sauce that can be paired with your favorite pasta. This tasty sauce is ready in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/4 cup diced yellow onion
  • 1 28oz can San Marzano tomatoes
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil leaves, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat for 30 seconds.
  2. Add the onion and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add the garlic and continue to cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add the tomatoes and oregano and simmer for 20-25 minutes.
  5. Break up the tomatoes using the back of a spoon until the sauce is just slightly chunky. If you want a smooth sauce, you can use an immersion blender to blend the sauce until you get your desired consistency.
  6. Stir in fresh basil at the end of cooking.

Notes

This recipe makes about 1 1/4 cups of sauce which is enough sauce for about 8oz of pasta. If you wanted to make enough for 1lb of pasta, you can double the recipe. You can tap the “2x” at the top of the recipe to double the measurements.
