Last week, I was craving some warm comfort food but I didn’t want to make anything complicated. I remembered this beer bread recipe that I made a few years ago and decided to throw it together again. It was even better than I remembered!

How to Make Beer Bread

In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

Add the beer and gently mix until combined.

It’s ok if there are still streaks of flour. You don’t want to overmix the dough.

Top with vegan butter (or regular butter, if not vegan).

Bake at 375 degrees for 45-55 minutes until golden brown.

Tips for the perfect vegan beer bread

  • I’ve made this bread with Stella Artois and PBR, but any light beer without a really strong flavor should work. I wouldn’t recommend using any sort of dark beer or anything with a strong taste, like a sour beer.
  • I kept this recipe vegan by using Earth Balance, which is a “butter” made from coconut oil. If you’re not vegan, feel free to use regular butter.
  • When combining the ingredients, be sure not to overmix the batter. Use a wooden spoon, not an electric mixer.

Description

This 6-ingredient beer bread recipe is so easy to make and it tastes amazing! You can have fresh bread in no time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 12oz light beer (see note)
  • 2 tablespoons vegan butter such as Earth Balance or Miyoko’s (or butter if you’re not vegan)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Spray a 9×6 or 8×5 loaf pan with non-stick spray and set aside.
  3. Mix flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar together, and then pour in the beer.
  4. Stir until just combined but do not over mix. (It’s ok if there are lumps of flour.)
  5. Cut the margarine/butter on top of the batter, then bake for 45-55 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  6. Let cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Use a light beer without a strong flavor. I’ve used Stella Artois, PBR, and Bud Light.

I may or may not have eaten half a loaf yesterday. Oops. What can I say, there’s nothing better than bread fresh from the oven! I love how this bread has a crispy crust. You could add butter or jam on top but I just ate the slices plain! I think this bread has plenty of flavor on its own!
