Christmas Sugar Cookies
Finally! It’s the season for Christmas cookies. I had some friends over last night to watch the Christmas classic, Home Alone, and it was a good excuse to kick off the baking season. To be truthful, I’m really not that much of a baker. I hate measuring things, and baking requires you to be a tad more specific… so admittedly my creations don’t always turn out well. Thankfully, I have a great sugar cookie recipe that leaves the cookies soft on the inside, and just a tad crispy on the outside. I made this sugar cookie recipe again, topped with butter cream frosting and sprinkles.
Mmm you really can’t go wrong with sugar cookies. I made a few slight tweaks to the original recipe that I posed a couple of years ago, so here’s an updated version.
Simple Sugar Cookies
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Additional sugar (for rolling)
In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and baking soda, and gradually add it to the creamed mixture. Shape into 1 inch balls, and roll in sugar. Bake on a greased baking sheet and flatten, slightly. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
I saved a few Christmas cookies for last night, when Alex and I celebrated Christmas. We’re going to be apart for the real Christmas day, and we have something going on every single night until we each head home to our families, so we had to celebrate a little early. I was so excited to give him his gifts, that I could hardly wait, so maybe it’s good we opened them early! I can’t post any pictures of the gifts just yet, as it might ruin a few surprises for other people, but it was a special night 🙂
I do like baking. I’m a fan of the exactness of it all, the structure if you will.
These sugar cookies look fabulous; they’re some of my favorite. Thanks for sharing.
Holiday season is the perfect time to devour -unhealthy- cookies.. in moderation of course!
I love baking cookies! especially naughty ones like these! hehe! 🙂
your christmas tree kinda matches the cookies..so pretty!
Mmm I love a good sugar cookie! I decorated some cutout cookies with friends last weekend too – it’s much more fun with friends!
I love all kinds of cookies, but during the holidays sugar cookies are definitely my favorite :).
Heck YES I love baking! More so the results of baking, but the process isn’t too bad either 😉 I actually find the whole exact measuring bit relaxing.
Happy Friday, Liz!
I usually prefer cooking over baking, but I love to bake cookies! Especially when they are for other people (a party, staff lunch, etc). I love surprising people with an awesome cookie that is vegan and gluten free!
I am a big cookie baker. On Wednesday my bestie is coming over and we are doing a major baking spree complete with wine. Many bottles (gotta fuel, ya know). I really love making traditional sugar cookies but also the Lofthouse kind. If I make the Lofthouse ones, I usually sub gingerbread for more variety for the tradition sugar cookies so I still have something to decorate!
Wow, your fir-tree looks so cool! I really I love baking, but I am not the master of measurements. I simply throw casual things together and if it turns out tasty – I publish it in the blog 😀
i love sugar cookies, mainly because it is a christmas tradition and who doesn’t love traditions wrapped in sugar and icing? hehe
