- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
- 1 head green cabbage (1 1/2 pounds), cored and thinly sliced
- 2 onions, halved and thinly sliced
- 1 cup water
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/4 teaspoons table salt, plus more for cooking noodles
- 16 ounces wide egg noodles
- Fresh dill for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add cabbage, onions, water, garlic, and salt. Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 15 minutes.
- Remove lid and continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are deep golden brown and sticky, about 25 minutes.
- Meanwhile, bring 4 quarts of water to a boil. Add noodles and one teaspoon salt. Cook until tender, then drain and return to the pot.
- Turn off heat, add the cabbage mixture and remaining 2 tablespoons butter to the noodles. Toss until the butter is melted and everything is well combined.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with dill, if using.
