So we still don’t have a bathroom. This week’s home improvement project has taken a little longer than we expected, due to some unforeseen events. (We didn’t anticipate having to completely re-do the subfloor.) But Alex and my dad have been hard at work figuring out how to tackle it. Yesterday, for Thanksgiving, we took a day off. For whatever reason, I was craving some warm comfort food but I didn’t want to make anything complicated. I remembered this beer bread recipe that I made a few Christmases ago and decided to throw it together again. It was even better than I remembered!

Serves: 12
Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 12oz beer (I used Stella Artois)
  • 2 tbsp earth balance margarine (or butter if you're not vegan)
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375.
  2. Mix your flour, baking powder, salt and sugar together, and then pour in the can of beer. Stir until just combined but do not over mix.
  3. There will be lumps of flour and that’s ok! Do not use an electric mixer. Just a plain old spoon will do.
  4. Lightly spray a loaf pan with non-stick spray, and pour in the batter. It will be lumpy and thick!
  5. Cut the margarine/butter on top of the batter, and bake for 45-55 minutes.
  6. The top will brown just a bit.
  7. Let cool, slice, and enjoy!

I may or may not have eaten half a loaf yesterday. Oops. What can I say, there’s nothing better than bread fresh from the oven!

  1. Okay…I love SO MANY things about this bread! First it’s vegan, second it uses STELLAAAAAAA! I luuuuurve Stella! 😀

  2. Ooh this looks delicious. This weekend I’m gonna hit the farmers market with a friend 🙂

  3. Wow that looks so easy love it!

  4. This looks awesome, such a creative idea!

  5. That looks really yummy Liz!
Good luck with the bathroom remodel! Can’t wait to see pics of the end result!

  6. I tried this recipe last night with a Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin (it’s an IPA with grapefruit flavors) and it turned out really well! My husband doesn’t really like the beer, but he sure ate the bread! The flavors of the beer come through subtly, with more emphasis on the yeasty aspect instead of the grapefruit (which is very present in the beer. Overall, it’s a great recipe. Super easy to make and super quick for homemade bread! I can’t wait to try it with other beer flavors! Thanks for sharing!

    • I’m actually not a big beer drinker but I LOVE that grapefruit sculpin!! Haha that’s too funny! I’m glad you enjoyed the bread!
